Resident Engineer

Reporting to the Advanced Services Manager, this is a highly technical role, providing implementation and operational support on-site and remotely for Juniper Network Products.

The Resident Engineer will be required to develop and maintain an expertise on the products deployed within the Customer's network, and provide mentoring on Juniper solutions.

This is a Full time position at the customer location, working as part of a wider Juniper Advanced Services team.

Typical activities are around the following key areas:

  • Design Validation and Verification testing
  • Interoperability testing, multi-vendor
  • Implementation support
  • Knowledge Transfer to customer staff
  • Trouble-shooting/fault finding
  • Operational assistance (customer NOC)
  • Software Versioning Review ( bug scrub')

Responsibilities:

Operational & Technical support to the Customer may also require the RE:

  • To participate in design and information gathering workshops to understand the customer's existing network design and technical requirements, and assess pros and cons of ideas.
  • To understand the customer's global organizational structure and become familiar with the customers network implementation, best practices, and Support processes and procedures.
  • To carry out lab testing of new features and functionality required in the customer environment and to implement and verify they are operating correctly in the live network.
  • To test new releases, fixes, and workarounds to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the live network.
  • To troubleshoot equipment and network problems and to open and help drive Juniper TAC cases through to problem resolution.
  • Produce written summary reports of the status of equipment and network problems, plus pertinent technical documentation, as requested by the customer.
  • To hold technology workshops with the customer to discuss equipment and network problems, and provide the reasons for problems encountered and the workarounds and/or solutions that are being tried.
  • To train the customer's design, implementation and support personnel to configure and operate Juniper Networks products, best practices.
  • To assist the customer to develop Network Operating and Equipment Operating Procedures. The RE may also need to develop secondary skills in other products in the Juniper portfolio.

Minimum Qualifications:

German language skills are mandatory and skills required are Switching, Security, Wireless

The ideal candidate for this role must be able to demonstrate the following credentials:

  • Detailed technical experience in the testing, installation and operation of MX-based core routing network in a large Enterprise environment. Service Provider experience is acceptable due to the technical commonality across core routing environments. This expertise includes hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a team, with multiple departments within Juniper and with the host company in a responsible and professional fashion.

Expert level relationship management, and communications skills to manage face to face communications on a daily basis with multiple levels of customer management and cross-functional engineering staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work productively under pressure.

Self-starter, team player, personable, enthusiastic, hardworking, and enjoys interfacing with customers on a day to day basis. Able to apply knowledge to real-world scenarios.

Expertise and real-world experience working with JUNOS and Juniper Networks MX devices.

Strong troubleshooting skills and methodologies across a multi-vendor environment. Able to isolate and identify configuration, design, and software anomalies; can clearly articulate findings in written and verbal communications with development staff.

Strong organizational and time-management skills, uses time in forward-looking ways.

Ability to proactively support changes/activities in the customer environment and network, and effectively communicate the implications to Service Managers and Sales colleagues.
