Windows Application Support Specialist (m/f)
Overview:
Our client is moving from a system architecture largely centred on Mainframe technologies towards a Windows and Linux environment, acquiring Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) software, wherever possible.
Environment:
Our client supports approximately 8000 workstations and 2000 laptops, currently running Windows XP Professional v2002 SP3. These workstations have to be migrated to Windows 7 by the end of Q3 of 2014.
In addition, they have approximately 600 Windows Servers, of which around 80% are virtual machines, the rest physical machines. The underlying hardware is physically located on our client's sites in Munich and The Hague.
The Windows client environment currently has around 120 commercial applications plus some 40 Windows Server based software packages each with differing degrees of configuration and customisation.
The majority of the client packages are installed on an on-demand basis using a commercial software distribution suite called FrontRange DSM NetInstall.
Tasks:
Mo-Fr: 8am-7pm:
- 2nd level support for Windows Server Applications
- Raising and processing Change Requests, updating incidents (tickets), liaising with Problem Managers
- Document activities in a Knowledge Database (format to be agreed with the client)
- Simple system/application administration tasks where required (adding/deleting users and modifying access levels)
- Application Health Checks
- Monitoring application performance
- 24/7 on-call support in cases of emergencies
