Creating foundations for redesign of a service platform by developing automated installation and configuration management.The objective is to create application instances which can be set up automatically, without manual interaction from scratch, that is, starting with a virtual machine consisting of a bare Linux kernel and a bootstrap script.
The automation shall be able to differentiate between environments (development, test, reference, staging, production) automatically and adapt the configuration accordingly (e.g. checking production certification of components, not setting up development environments on production machines,...). Testing of the automatically set up instances will be done also in an automated way.
The candidate should have the following skill set:
- Experience with productive Linux systems, perferable in the area of business intelligence or data analytics
- Experience in setting up and working with virtual machines
- Excellent understanding of unixoid operating systems, including Linux, preferrably RHEL
- Deep understanding of Linux related tools, among them at least:
-- Nagios
-- Rsyslog
-- Postgres
-- LDAP
-- Git and/or SVN
- Understanding of automated configuration and deployment paradigms
- Experience with tools for automation of configuration, deloyment and testing, among them
-- Puppet
-- Chef
-- Cucumber
-- or equivalent
- Excellent knowledge and experience in working with bash, including scripting
- Experience in working with Ruby
- Working knowledge of C/C++
- Ability to work independent as part of an agile project
- Ability to communicate written and verbally in English UNIX (andere) ++

Targeted ecosystem makes use of Ruby, thus according knowledge is required (Ruby +++).
The task is primarily scoped for setting up the environment, so knowledge about production applications is useful, but not decisive.
Knowledge about tools described in profile is essential.
As the task if focussing on installation of the environment, sector specific knowledge is not relevant.
Business Intelligence background is useful.
