For our customer, an inter-governmental organisation located in Darmstadt/Germany we are looking for a Software Librarian.

Candidates must have a passport of an EU member state or a valid work permit for Germany

TASKS

The main duties are the design and the maintenance of the as-built software build environment and the actual building, packaging and distribution of any software that can be built on-site. Furthermore the duties include a range of tasks, from the support to the operation of the Linux-based facilities, to the analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance of software functions. It also includes the setting-up and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures as well as the co-ordination with external providers of maintenance services.

In particular the tasks will include:

  • Development and Maintenance of the as-built software build environments;
  • Building and distribution of software releases and patches;
  • Support installation, configuration and testing of software externally developed;
  • Investigation into anomalies, their documentation and classification;
  • Follow up of the delivery of S/W corrections;
  • Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews;
  • Analysis of the maintenance requirements
  • Identification, procurement or implementation of the tools to fulfil them;
  • Writing of maintenance procedures;

PROFILE

In addition to having a University degree in a relevant discipline, the Consultant shall have at least 5 years experience of configuration controlled software build environments and experience in S/W packaging, installation and configuration for the operations and maintenance of large, Real Time Monitoring & Control/Data Processing systems. The Consultant shall have a significant work experience in Unix/Linux Operating System environments. He/She should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with networking, distributed applications, and TCP/IP services. Knowledge and experience of the following programming languages, software tools and processes is mandatory:

  • Software build environments and tools (eg make, imake);
  • Source Code control system, preferably CVS, SubVersion or Rational ClearCase;
  • Change Management;
  • C/C++ programming languages;
  • Java programming language;
  • Basic UNIX/Linux System Administration;

Practical knowledge of as many as possible of the following software tools and products will be an advantage:

  • Database programming (Sybase, DB2, Oracle);
  • Formalised Software Testing;
  • MS-Access, Visual Basic programming;
  • FORTRAN programming;
  • Serena Dimensions CM;
  • S/W development

The consultant shall display:

  • Very good communication, presentation, and team working skills;
  • The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and obtain a system overview;
  • A high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills;
  • The official language is English. French skills are an advantage.
