For our customer, an inter-governmental organisation located in Darmstadt/Germany we are looking for a Network Engineer.

Candidates must have a passport of an EU member state or a valid work permit for Germany

TASKS

  • Analysis, specification, planning and implementation of network upgrades;
  • Specification, implementation of quality and performance;
  • Generation or update of technical documentation;
  • Implementation and maintenance of a campus MPLS/VRF backbone network;
  • Installation and configuration of Routers, Switches, Firewalls and multiplexers;
  • Implementation of corrective measures, including testing and validation;
  • Tuning of operating parameters to optimize performance;
  • Analyzing problems with WAN links and services;
  • Monitoring of security configuration settings;
  • Implementation of security measures at the network level;
  • Using collected statistics to support proposals for network modifications;
  • Liaising with the internal and external providers of network services for anomaly resolution;
  • Provision of on-the-job training to other team members;

PROFILE

In addition to having a university degree, the consultant shall have at least 5 years experience in the evolutionary upgrade engineering of networks throughout their life cycle, and their administration and troubleshooting. The experience shall have been made in an operational or production environment, driven by high availability requirements. The consultant shall have current Cisco certification or be able to substantiate equivalent experience.

Proven knowledge and hands-on experience with the following is mandatory:

  • Experience of specifying, planning and preparing network engineering activities;
  • Coordination and technical guidance;
  • Ability to analyse complex systems and to present them in a comprehensible way;
  • Demonstrated capability to prepare the documents listed in the tasks above;
  • Cisco network technology, architectures and equipment, Cisco operating systems;
  • Campus Backbone network architectures (eg MPLS VPN);
  • Network QOS techniques and solutions;
  • High availability network techniques eg HSRP, VSS, OSPF, BGP, RIP;
  • Data center network architecture;
  • WAN interfacing: MPLS, SDH, Ethernet-based, E1/E3, ISDN, leased line services;
  • Experience of working in 24/7 high-availability operations environments;
  • Interaction with product and service suppliers in support of procurement activities.

In addition, knowledge and hands-on experience with the following is considered very desirable:

  • Network security solutions - Cisco, ASA, FWSM, IPSEC VPN, TACACS+;
  • Access control and authentication solutions;
  • Network Virtualization architectures and solutions;
  • Network management tools: JFF, Nagios, Cisco Works, RMON, SNMP;
  • IP multicast and multicast related protocols and standards (eg PGM);
  • Network time systems: GPS receivers, NTP Servers;
  • Protocol analysers;
  • Tools: Snort, wireshark, tcpdump, iptables, cricket, iperf;
  • Knowledge of service management and SLAs.

The consultant shall be familiar with the following HW/SW systems, particularly in the areas of network interface configuration, TCP stack configuration and high availability interface configuration:

  • Solaris, Linux, AIX, Microsoft Windows operating systems;
  • Configuration and monitoring of network protocols, eg DNS, SNMP, FTP, NTP.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including MS-Visio.

The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with a minimum of supervision. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Consultant must be able to work effectively in this language.
