Task:
Desktop Application Management Services:
? Work with customers to help them understand, and to manage, the end-to-end application
packaging and deployment process
? Gather and document technical and business requirements from customers
? Obtain package-ready software from customers, carry out a pre-installation check, and
provide a technical validation of the suitability of an application for use within Customer
Environment
? Packaging applications for deployment to Wintel-based platforms according to set standards
? Packaging system files (e.g. OS patches, hardware patches) for deployment according to set
standards
? Management of package deployment in SCCM and Netinstall environment
? Developing and maintaining application deployment standards
? Developing and maintaining Wintel-based client device standards
? Developing scripts for both Netinstall and legacy SCCM environment
? Converting Net-install Scripts and legacy scripts to work on latest implementation of
Standard Desktop and SCCM environment.
? Work in conjunction with other analysts/Third party packaging team to estimate, schedule
and produce suitable deployment application packages
? Check the quality of deployment package and documentation generated by packaging
engineers/third party and ensure it meets the necessary standards
? Liaise with customers to arrange and manage the user acceptance testing of applications
? Work in conjunction with release management to ensure that deployments are managed
correctly, and that the customer is kept informed of progress
? Track work throughout its workflow, ensuring the customer is kept up to date of any
unexpected issues or delays
? Track deployments, identify and provide initial diagnosis of issues and keep customers and
site support teams appraised of progress
? Understand the SCCM reports and respond to requests to use them to obtain infrastructure
audit information for customers
? Identify and escalate technical or business risks, and conflicts within the plan of work
? Provide periodic reports and overall plan of work, to Delivery lead
? Work with license management to ensure the obligations/requirements towards/for license
compliance are adhered to.
? Work on Standard Service Request, Non-Standard Service requests and incident
management adhereing to prescribed process
Supplier will provide: Personnel with the following skills and qualifications to perform the services
Excellent customer facing skills
Very good awareness of packaging methodologies and objectives
Very good understanding of application deployment methodologies (Push, pull, phased etc
approaches)
An obvious aptitude for technical problem solving and methodical working
An ability to produce documentation to an acceptable format and standard
A strong technical understanding of the abilities and limitations of packaging and deployment
tools
A strong technical understanding of Windows client operating systems (XP, Vista and Windows
7) and Terminal Server (for Citrix packaging)
A working knowledge of the packaging tools and procedures used within large enterprises
Very good skills Windows Installer technology (MSI, transforms, merge modules, patches) and
its functionality
Excellent working knowledge of packaging related technologies, including MS SCCM, Net
install, MS AD, Workflow Manager, AdminStudio, Wise package studio, VBScripting, Devtrack
and ability to understand and work with proprietary wrapper scripts used for automating
installations.
Very good knowledge to script with proprietary setups/legacy setups (e.g. SAP, Oracle,
Installsheild setup etc).
Very good knowledge to script with complex setups (e.g. SAP, Java, Autodesk products etc).
Very good Skills in Software Distributions Systems Net-install and SCCM.
Experience with Qualisty assurance of software packages and deployment setups (Netinstall
and SCCM).
Ability to convert Net-install/legacy scripts into requirements for development and also ability
to create equivalent scripts using newer technologies e.g. VBScript/Powershell.
A track record of strong customer focus
A track record of sharing knowledge and experience across the teams
An aptitude to identify and implement process and procedural improvements
Ability to define and maintain packaging standards and guidleines.

Artefacts/Services assoaciated with Desktop Application Management Services (as described in services
section) including but not limited to
Validated packaging request (confirm the requirements, availability of all pre-requisites, install and
launch test).
Completed discovery/Submission document in all requests
Software package as per requirement and set standards
UAT Management
Deployment of software packages as agreed and defined by release/change management in association
with the application owner.
Root cause analysis of any issues during deployment or raised by problem management.
Solution Design for NSR
Conversion of Netinstall scripts to requirements.
Conversion of Netinstall scripts to newer technologies that can be used in the new SCCM environment
etc.
Regular progress report on work undertaken.
