Task:We are looking for a consultant with experience in setting up physical PODs (pPOD) at scale on large datacenters, aiming to standardize the infrastructure deployment used to deliver IaaS.
We need to understand/validate what is the criteria to consider when building large physical POD (pPODs) to support an Infrastructure as a service (IaaS) platform.
We need to understand and have documented the main elements that enable/limit massive scalability potential.
We expect a pPOD high level design document, CONCRETE and suitable for directly going into the detailed level engineering, based on our hardware standards.
The outcome of the engagement should be a sound recommendation about how to configure and exploit relatively large blocks of:
- self-standing
- physical infrastructure to base our internal IaaS offer.
- We are considering physical Pod of around 15 to 20 racks to handle the compute network storage management tooling and monitoring requirements. We would favor a SAN-less design.
- Those pods need to be defined in detail so we can deploying multiple instances of them, mechanically
and without major adjustments to deliver them.
- Infrastructure relationships (physical and logical) among the components of the pPODs as well as relationships (physical and logical) among pPODs should be provided.
- Especially interesting is the recommendation about how to connect the pPODs among themselves and how the different data types is expected to be laid across them.
- The physical installation should be possible using standard main-stream HW from our strategic HW infrastructure providers.
- We need to have clearly understood how is the scalability designed and what are the effects of different components malfunctioning or being unavailable.
