Senior Backend Developer – Java/Kotlin, Integration & DevOps
Start: ASAP
Duration: Approximately 12 months

We are looking for an experienced Backend Developer with strong Operations and DevOps expertise to support a complex integration project. The main focus will be the functional and technical integration of a new third-party software solution into an existing application landscape.
Your ResponsibilitiesYou will play a key role in designing, implementing, deploying and operating the new integration architecture.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and implementing the integration of a new third-party software solution
- Transforming synchronous communication processes into an asynchronous communication model
- Implementing communication flows through an API management platform or API gateway
- Designing and developing a standalone Anti-Corruption Layer or adapter web service to ensure clean separation between domains
- Developing backend services using Java or Kotlin and Spring Boot
- Designing and implementing APIs using an API-first approach
- Configuring and deploying the third-party software and newly developed integration services on Kubernetes
- Building and maintaining CI/CD and GitOps processes
- Creating Grafana dashboards, metrics and alerting for ongoing operations
- Working closely with the responsible platform and infrastructure teams
- Providing technical guidance to the existing development team
- Promoting and applying best practices such as clean code, code reviews, automated testing and high unit-test coverage
- Several years of professional backend development experience with Java and/or Kotlin
- Strong knowledge of Spring Boot
- In-depth experience with integration architectures and messaging systems
- Strong understanding of transforming synchronous communication into asynchronous processes
- Hands-on experience with RabbitMQ and ideally Apache Camel
- Experience with API gateways and API management, preferably Kong
- Solid knowledge of Domain-Driven Design and integration patterns, including:
- Anti-Corruption Layer
- Adapter Pattern
- Decoupling third-party and standard software systems
- Experience with API-first development
- Strong understanding of containerisation, platform architectures and Infrastructure as Code
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes
- Experience with Argo CD, Rancher and Harbor
- Knowledge of building and operating GitOps-based deployment processes
- Experience with Grafana, including the creation of dashboards and alerts
- Ability to take ownership of application configuration, deployment and monitoring
- Experience collaborating with central platform and infrastructure teams
- Experience working in agile development teams
- Structured, independent and solution-oriented approach
- Strong communication skills, including cross-team coordination
- Ability to explain technical decisions clearly and effectively
- Experience mentoring and supporting other developers
- Strong commitment to architecture, code quality and automated testing
The Kubernetes platform is hosted and managed by a separate platform team. However, the development team is responsible for the configuration, deployment and monitoring of the integrated third-party software and all newly developed integration services.
We are therefore looking for someone who is equally comfortable with backend development and the operational responsibility of modern, containerised applications.
