Freelance Senior Backend Engineer | TypeScript / Node.js / AWS Serverless | Remote
For an innovative digital product environment, we are looking for an experienced Freelance Senior Backend Engineer with a strong focus on TypeScript, Node.js and AWS serverless architectures.
You will join a small senior engineering team and take end-to-end ownership of backend services, from architecture and API design through implementation and production operation.
Your Responsibilities
Design, build and operate scalable backend services using TypeScript and Node.js
Develop and evolve serverless architectures on AWS
Design robust API and data contracts
Work with event-driven and distributed backend systems
Take end-to-end ownership of services in production
Monitor and troubleshoot production systems and resolve incidents
Work with AI coding agents as part of the development workflow
Contribute to infrastructure and deployment processes
Your Profile
Strong hands-on experience in backend development with TypeScript and Node.js
Deep practical experience with AWS serverless architectures
Strong experience with AWS Lambda, API Gateway and DynamoDB
Experience with event-driven architectures / event streaming
Strong understanding of API design, data modelling and backend architecture
Proven experience owning and operating services in production
Experience with Terraform and CI/CD
Comfortable working independently in existing and unfamiliar codebases
Practical experience using AI coding tools / coding agents
Nice to Have
Python
Go or Rust
Experience with monorepos and shared engineering tooling
