Send us an email with your CV directly to projects5[at]joyit-berlin.de. Please note: Only apply if the profile exactly fits
the requirements.

The proper functioning of the energy market is one of the key elements in the energy transition. Our
Company plays a central role in facilitating the market and is, among other things, responsible for
numerous support services for operating the network (e.g. balancing reserves, black start, etc.) and
for carrying out various tasks in the market mechanisms for security of supply (e.g. capacity
compensation mechanism (CRM))

Within the Energy Management and Adequacy department, the Ancillary Services team is responsible
for assessing market developments in the field of balancing and voltage maintenance services. This
allows us to respond to the increasing importance of renewable energy sources and the integration
of the European energy market. The Ancillary Services team is also responsible for sizing the balancing
reserves and developing reconstruction services to re-energize the grid after a blackout.
We currently wish to strengthen the Ancillary Services team with an Expert Market Design Ancillary
Services who will be partly responsible for the future evolutions of the support services (and in
particular the balancing services) in order to further improve these services and prepare them for the
future.

Main tasks:
The tasks of the Expert Market Design Ancillary Services include:
• Carrying out analyzes on the need for changes in the conditions for participating in the various
services in the context of developments in the markets (e.g. the expected increase in the market share
of large-scale batteries) and/or developments in the regulatory framework (e.g. European
harmonization of certain conditions for support services).
• Determining our position on (the need for) certain evolutions of the support services by making
recommendations and discussing and validating them internally with the colleagues involved from
various departments.
• Preparing and supervising presentations for workshops with market parties and/or regulators in
which proposals for evolutions of the various services are presented or the need for future analyzes
is identified.
• If applicable, carrying out an impact analysis to estimate the implementation options and the
corresponding implementation efforts, the necessary process adjustments and any synergies with
other projects with the help of the colleagues involved

In particular, it is expected that the Expert Market Design Ancillary Services will be involved in the
following projects in 2024:
• Carrying out a study with the aim of reviewing the specific conditions imposed on
technologies with a limited energy reservoir (e.g. batteries) and aiming to ensure that a
balancing service can be provided continuously.
• Mapping, in close consultation with the market parties, any unnecessary barriers to
participation in one or more supported services as well as identifying the priority and options
for removing these barriers.

Additional requirements:
• You have a technical master's degree or an economic master's degree with an interest in
working in a technical environment.
• You have 3 to 5 years of (relevant) experience.
• You have a great interest in the energy sector and understand the global functioning of the
energy market.
• You have a strong, analytical mind and are able to control and understand complex processes.
• You can focus on details without losing sight of the overall picture and deliver flawless work.
• You can combine different types of tasks and organize tasks autonomously. You can
distinguish priorities well.
• You like teamwork, you are results-oriented and you are able to solve problems.
• You have a smooth communication style.
• You learn quickly, with a proactive and positive attitude.
• You are fluent in Dutch or French and have sufficient knowledge of the other language.
Moreover, you can communicate fluently orally and in writing in English.
