Freelance Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Pharma/Biotech (m/f/d)

Project Description

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to provide strategic and operational leadership for the clinical development activities of an innovative biotechnology company.

The CMO will hold overall medical responsibility for the company's development programs and serve as the primary medical contact for executive management, investors, Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs), Clinical Research Organizations (CROs), and regulatory authorities.Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the company's clinical development strategy
• Provide medical leadership for preclinical and clinical development programs
• Draft and review study protocols, Investigator Brochures, and other medical documentation
• Collaborate with CROs, investigators, and scientific advisors
• Support and lead interactions with regulatory authorities, including the EMA, FDA, and other agencies
• Oversee drug safety monitoring and benefit-risk assessments
• Establish and lead Medical Affairs activities
• Support due diligence processes, fundraising activities, and investor discussions
• Represent the company at scientific congresses, conferences, and industry events
• Advise executive management on medical and strategic matters

Requirements

Must-Have

• Advanced degree in Medicine, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related scientific discipline
• Several years of experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
• Proven track record in clinical development across Phases I-III
• Strong knowledge of regulatory requirements and guidelines (EMA/FDA)
• Experience working with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) and international clinical trial sites
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

Nice-to-Have

• Experience in start-up and/or biotech environments
• Successful involvement in regulatory approval submissions and processes
• Experience in investor relations and/or fundraising activities

Engagement Details

• Start Date: Upon agreement
• Contract Duration: 12-18 months, with the possibility of extension
• Workload: Flexible, approximately 20-40%
• Location: Remote, with occasional on-site meetings
• Contract Type: Freelance / Interim Management
