Description Süddeutsche Zeitung is one of the largest daily newspapers in Germany.
Their main website sueddeutsche.de ranks as one of the most visited
German websites and contains more than a million distinct pages.
Jingyi was part of the web team which is responsible for large parts of the
websites sueddeutsche.de and sz-magazin.sueddeutsche.de, and multiple
CMS systems. He has worked Below is an excerpt of different projects he
worked on.
Project Title Technical SEO
Description Jingyi took the role of a technical SEO specialist in his team. He monitored
core web vitals and was the team's contact person for performance related
questions and issues. He gave talks about the SEO topics to spread
knowledge in the company. As a technical advisor he complemented the
SEO managers, who took care of the analytical part of SEO. The ideas he
pitched has been leading to in significant improvements in the search
engine visibility of multiple products.
Project Title Maintenance of a Deprecated Product
Description A product was put maintenance mode, while the team was focusing on
other projects. The product has a large active user base and comes with
multiple own rendering and CMS systems. Jingyi took the leading role in
maintaining the product. He monitored the systems, wrote patching plans
and fixed bugs. He later held workshops to build up knowledge about this
product when was about to leave the company.

Project Title Migration of the Main CMS System
Project Description Jingyi worked on the migration of the company's main CMS system. He and
his team created new applications and shifted old applications to the new
CMSs downstream. Some of the applications were rewritten to a new
techstack. CI/CD pipelines were shifted from Jenkins to Github Actions.

Listen to the Article
Jingyi played a key role in creating the listen-to-the-article feature. A new
system was created which synthesizes published articles with a neural
text-to-speech engine. An accompanying audio player was developed and
built into the article pages.

New Consent and Cookie System
The company wanted to change the consent and cookie system of all their
websites from a user-rights based system to a contract-rights based
system. The new system presents different consent layers to the user
depending on the user's state and the page visited. The rollout had to be
done on all products simultaneously. Jingyi and his team coordinated with
stakeholders and 3rd party companies during the technical conception.
They created a baseline which can be used by other teams and assisted
other teams in the implementation. The company wide rollout was
planned and executed by Jingyi and his team.

Migration to a New User Management Platform
The web team replaced their single-sign-on and paywall for the new user
management platform. One of the challenges was that the old system was
deeply rooted in many applications and throughout different products.
Since the new platform is very different in concept from the old platform,
new architectures had been created for the new system. Until the final
release, a parallel operation of both platforms had to be ensured. This
project required the collaboration and coordination of many different
teams and was bound by hard deadlines.
Jingyi worked together with other teams to create the new architecture
and acted as point of contact for other stakeholders, other engineering
teams and his own team.

Description Chen UG runs the restaurant Chen's Nudelbar at Marienplatz, at the heart
of Munich. During the opening phase, Jingyi built up the restaurant's
internet presence by managing their profile on different web and social
media platforms and build the restaurant's website. He designed the
website and the menu in accordance with the company's design language.
