Took over development of and revamped a bridge between a popular e-commerce platform and an ERP suite. Eliminated performance bottlenecks such as n+1 queries through extensive monitoring and replaced ORM queries with direct SQL queries.
Built and architected a Ruby on Rails based system for a popular annual book catalogue covering both online and print editions. Hosted on Heroku and a GCP CDN, the system handles data entry, reporting, and the entire data pipeline for print and online editions, as well as RESTful JSON data endpoints for 3rd parties. The print edition is processed using XML data, shaped using XSLT, images are fetched using a PowerShell script and the information is fed into Adobe Illustrator.
Acted as the main Level 3 escalation focal point for web hosting customers experiencing breaches resulting in revenue and reputation loss, performing rapid root cause analysis and post-mortem work. Deployed and maintained internal services such as Mattermost, Gitea, and Drone for CI purposes. Implemented New Relic as an alternative to Munin and Logstash for analysing performance and security breaches. Engineered automated performance-tuning scripts and backend software solutions using Ansible and Bash.
