Mechanical Engineer - BAE Naval Defence Systems - 3 Month Contract - Portsmouth, Hampshire- £27.65ph PAYE or £35.53ph UMB or £31.82ph Limited Company (Inside IR35)
The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (ie the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.
Clearance Requirements & Eligibility
This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a Criminal Record Check. You must currently hold or be eligible and willing to obtain SC and you must be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship and have lived and worked in the UK for a minimum 5 year period. Position Description
An experienced Mechanical Engineer who applies a breadth of knowledge and skills and has experience of engineering approaches, techniques and governance. Is able to apply experience to design & development solutions, resolve engineering issues and problems for a range of products and engineering situations. Able to work independently under limited technical direction. Specifically,
A Mechanical Engineer with experience of packaging electronics and electromechanical assemblies in 19 inch equipment racks.
An understanding of design for harsh environmental conditions including shock and vibration, thermal management and working to space and weight constraints.
Providing technical guidance and support to CAD staff.
Core Duties
The role holder will:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of engineering theories, concepts, practices, principals and approaches
Able to apply theoretical engineering knowledge, experience & skills to develop products & services, specifications, designs and developments, able to resolve technical & performance issues and problems for a product or service.
Complete the design of the enclosure solution for the Goldcrest Hardware Interface and Timing Unit (HITU) to contain an in-house design PEC and its interfaces
Complete the design for the Data Processing Rack for the Goldcrest system
Ensure the mechanical solution meets the relevant safety standards
Provide rack and unit level thermal assessments of the Data Processing Rack.
Work with and direct the project Mechanical CAD resources to scheme and detail design solutions.
Define tests that prove the mechanical requirements of the rack and rack mounted equipment.
Maintain technical design files
Functional Knowledge
The role holder will:
Have an understanding of the principles and approaches underpinning mechanical engineering design and development. Have an understanding, knowledge and experience in mechanical engineering design and development of systems, sub-systems, assemblies and components. CEng level or equivalent level of capability.
Be capable of undertaking mechanical and thermal design calculations in support of design proposals.
Aware of assembly and production techniques in the design of equipment racks.
Be familiar with other discipline areas such as electrical engineering, manufacturing and hardware design.

Typically requires a limited knowledge of activities of other teams in the Area.
