Skills

Generalist by definition since 1994 with a focus on texture creation, UV mapping, environment / level design, and asset optimisation for real-time 3D engines. Skilled in reducing poly count and draw calls, creating level of detail variations, texture atlases and getting the last texel out of UV spaces.

Co-Founded "SkyTale Studios" in 2019 together with Sascha Ledinsky and Alois Steiner, veterans of F-Sim Space Shuttle in 2010 (more than 1 million paid downloads). SkyTale creates all kind of applications, with a focus on mobile flight and space exploration simulation games. Clients include United Airlines and Immersive VR Education. The founders also worked for Novomatic/Greentube, ORF, A1Siemens, Red Bull, Attraktion!, ...

Back to my bio: Experienced with large scale scenes and environments with hundreds of square kilometres in size. Level design based on real world areas or by imagination, including the technical setup. Whenever needed custom built tools in MEL, C# and Python support the daily workflow, especially reducing the hours spent in doing repetitive tasks.

Obsessed with clean and if possible non-destructive working methods so third parties can continue without unnecessary obstacles. Additionally skilled in 2D content creation: UI/UX, (procedural and painted) texture creation, logo design, following or creating corporate identities and art direction, photo editing & photography / photogrammetry, audio & video editing / compositing, motion video creation.

United Airlines Santa Claus's Sleigh Simulator

After integrating the Boeing 787 simulation game into the United Airlines app the airline asked SkyTale to create a Christmas related simulator especially for children.

SkyTale Studios developed this flight simulation game for United Airlines with a target package size of just 20MB. The game uses SkyTale's custom built WebGL engine and is embedded in the United Airlines app for iOS or Android.

At the end we squeezed a whole F-Sim like simulation of a Boeing 787 into 16MB, including San Franciso International Airport and suroundings like the San Franciso bay and city with buildings and bridges.

My responsibility: Lead artist (UI/UX design, creating the 3D assets, tool scripting, preparing promotion materials and videos)

Shuttle Commander

"Shuttle Commander" for Playstation VR and Oculus Quest was released by Immersive VR Education. SkyTale delivered the final Space Shuttle approach (Physics and 3D assets).

Greentube IES AG (Medien und Verlage, 250-500 Mitarbeiter)

Lead 3D Artist, responsible (especially in the first years) for the design of the user interface, 3D environment / track design and 3D assets. Later, while the team was expanding over the years due to the success of the game, focused on technical setup of the game scenes, creating the track and world and cleaning up assets and animations (of the skier model).
