Our client, a large IT provider, is recruiting for a Senior Java Developer to join their team.
The position is a contract role based in Essen (Germany) with occasional travel to London and Swindon.
This project will initially run until December 2015.
Role Purpose
* Support and further develop a number of applications written in Java that run as:
* Services on Tomcat using frameworks such as Spring and GW
* Stand/alone Java processes
* Swing applications
* Legacy JBoss EJB3, Hibernate (.EAR) applications
* Write and maintain Groovy scripts that are both deployed in applications and used at runtime
* Write integration code in Groovy and/or Java to interface with databases, web services and Excel etc.
* Analyse valuation data and reconcile with Risk figures; determine the causes of any differences and either fix or coordinate with the relevant people to regain consistency
* Produce reports via database queries for areas of the business when asked
* Automation of manual processes via scheduled jobs written as Groovy/Excel combinations
* Analyse situations quickly to provide tactical and strategic solutions
* Integrate with, and learn, other libraries (JavaScript or Java) as they are found to provide benefit
* Write well/structured code with a constant view on performance and maintainability
* Build applications based upon a knowledge of the business and without specific, well/documented, requirements
* Constantly look for improvement opportunities (functionality or performance etc.) through taking advantage of new technologies or ideas
* Support traders across multiple locations: Essen, London, Swindon, Singapore
Skills, Knowledge and Experience required:
* Very good Java coding skills
* Strong Database/SQL skills (particularly with Oracle)
* Experience with Java Web Application frameworks
* Knowledge of GWT (or SmartGWT) would be a benefit
* Experience of Maven would be useful
* Ability to analyse and solve problems quickly
* Knowledge of Spring would be a benefit
* Full development life cycle experience/from requirements gathering to deployment
* Previous experience of developing and supporting Front Office (trading) applications
* Knowledge of Energy Trading business and products would be a benefit
* Strong analytical skills
* Focussed on attention to detail
* Team player who communicates effectively with team members, users and business representatives at all levels
* Fluent in German and English
* Experience working within the energy and utilities industry would be highly desirable.
