We are seeking a strong UNIX/Linux System Administrator (w/m) on a contract basis in the financial sector who can perform the necessary functions associated with day-to-day UNIX server Operations support. An example of specific tasks and responsibilties are listed below:



Tasks and Responsibilities

Support the transition of new projects and services into production. Prepare the deployment, installation, implementation and roll out of new services and components in cooperation with projects and/or engineering teams. Contribute to the installation of the new service and service components as required.

Contribution to definition and maintenance of operational requirements.

Transfer knowledge to colleagues and ensure sufficient documentation is available for tasks to be assigned to the Data Centre Operators and the Service Desk.

Contribution to plan, prepare, test and implement change requests such as maintenance activities (e.g. patches and software upgrades) which are required to keep system running at optimised condition.



Knowledge and skills:

Proven experience in supporting, administering and maintaining mission-critical UNIX based systems.

Excellent knowledge and experience on SUN Solaris and Linux

Excellent knowledge in virtualization technology (e.g. Solaris zones/containers, LDOM, hardware partitioning, VMWare)

Excellent knowledge of scripting (bash, awk, sed, korn, PERL)

Knowledge of OpenText Livelink software and systems would be an advantage

Knowledge of client/server architecture, current PC technology, directory services, web services, file-sharing services would be an advantage

Knowledge of relational databases would be an advantage

Knowledge and experience in use of ERM (e.g. eHealth, Tivoli or HP Openview) would be advantage

Good analytical skills and incident resolution skills

Knowledge of IT Service Management processes and best practice (such as ITIL), in particular in the areas of problem management, release management, capacity planning and service level management would be an advantage.

Strong interpersonal skills, self-motivation and the ability to work in a team are very important.

Very good command of English with proven drafting ability
