This long term contract is within an organisation focused on the exciting domain of astronomy, telescopes and data reduction techniques.
Within the organisation, the software engineering department provides development teams with software engineering services including the provision of an environment and tools to define and support the software life cycle. The department is also in charge of integrating software modules, preparing software releases and verifying/validating software products before delivery to customers.
In addition, continuous regression testing is performed to ensure that existing functionality is still working when adding new features.
The required services consist of
- Testing applications according to organization quality procedures. It includes collecting and understanding user requirements; producing and automating test cases, plans and reports within a scientific Linux environment.
- Maintaining and upgrading the in-house developed (in Perl) automatic inspection tool.
- Analysing test results and investigating problem cases with developers.
- Contributing to establishing and implementing testing standards, procedures, tools and documentation
You are a software engineer with .
- minimum 3 years experience in testing complex Unix based (preferably Linux) software.
- able to support manual testing as well as implementing automated testing.
- comfortable writing documentation on test tools, environments, test procedures and reports.
- familiar with standard software development practices
- possessing excellent Scripting experience (Shell, Perl, etc).
- good knowledge of software build tools and makefiles
- hopefully with experience of static and dynamic code checking.
- some experience with continuous integration techniques and related tools such as CruiseControl.
Soft skills should include
- excellent command of the English language,
