For our customer, an inter-governmental organization located in Darmstadt/Germany we are looking for a Network Engineer.
TASKS
The Consultant's role will be to maintain and develop monitoring systems for the network and to provide an information base containing configurations, reports and procedures.
- Reviewing on a daily basis the events reported on the network monitoring tools;
- Collecting statistics on all links and the utilization of system resources;
- Detecting network anomalies and raising alarms and notifications;
- Provision of monthly performance reports on all WAN links;
- Maintenance of the configurations of network equipment,
- Ensuring that the operational configuration can be restored following equipment failure,
- Preparation for change proposals to support for network modifications
- Configuration of network monitoring/reporting tools;
PROFILE
Knowledge and experience with the following is considered mandatory:
In addition to having a university degree, the consultant shall have at least 5 years experience in the monitoring and reporting of networks in distributed systems and be experienced in the evolutionary upgrade engineering of networks throughout their life cycle, and their administration and troubleshooting. The experience shall have been made in an operational or production environment, driven by high availability requirements.
- Network management techniques/tools: Nagios, Netflow, Ntop, Snmptt, Syslog-ng;
- Configuration and use of the following tools: cricket, rancid, smokeping, iperf;
- Programmatic network equipment (eg mib access using expect or Perl Scripting);
- Using structured information tools such as Rancid, RRD, MySQL, CVS;
- Knowledge of Operating Systems (Redhat, Suse, Aix, Solaris, OpenBSD, Gentoo);
- Windows Operating Systems to configure and use the tools above;
- Experience of specifying, planning, preparing and coordination network engineering activities;
- Ability to analyse complex systems and to present them in a comprehensible way;
- Demonstrated capability to prepare the documents listed in the tasks above;
- Experience of working in 24/7 high-availability operations environments;
- Monitoring of external service provider performance, knowledge of SLAs;
In addition, knowledge and experience with the following is considered very desirable:
- Access control and authentication solutions (tacacs+, ssh, VPN);
- Cisco IOS basics, Cisco MIBs, Cisco Works;
- Information storage and access using Wiki, PHP, Gnuplot, R;
- Information analysis using splunk, snort, nessus, wireshark. tcpdump;
- Information replication using rsync, unison;
- Information presentation using graphical mimics;
- Configuration of network protocols and applications, eg https, NIS, NFS, DNS, ftp;
- Configuration of dial (in-out) connectivity (eg using mgetty, wvdial) for remote PCs;
- Network time systems and their configuration: GPS receivers, NTP Servers;
- Configuration of voice loop systems including VOIP and SIP based equipment;
- Interaction with product and service suppliers in support of procurement activities.
- TCP stack configuration and high availability interface configuration:
- Microsoft Office Suite, including MS-Visio.
The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills. The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with a minimum of supervision.
Fluent in English, French knowledge would be an advantage.
