Cloud Services Manager
Overview:
This virtualization position requires a dedication to producing high-quality output and proactive involvement in the successful delivery of virtualized infrastructure systems; on time, on budget, on function and through coordination within the rest of the technology department and the business owners. The Cloud Services Manager is responsible for managing the forward customer facing Infrastructure Team and assisting in the design and implementation of virtual desktop and server information systems which will adequately support the enterprise infrastructure of the organisation. Analyses system requirements and ensures that systems will offer security and will be effectively integrated with current systems. Ensures that all systems are working at optimal levels and offers support to other IT departments regarding new technologies and system requirements. Has thorough knowledge of infrastructure applications, networks, telecom systems, multiple Virtualization technologies and Data Centre construction/operations. (Data Centre experience is important for effective collaboration with the Senior Manager of Networking & Telecom). The Cloud Services Manager will possess strong leadership and technical skills, have experience designing and developing enterprise-class virtual infrastructure systems.
A keen interest in seeking out new technology which helps to innovate, and the ability to drive innovation within the IT organisation is essential. The candidate must have a good understanding of the business needs and long term objectives and be able to help align the infrastructure needs to meet the business growth objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all technical infrastructure employees
- Lead Virtualization technology choices confirming viability of certain choices. Be aware of alternatives and contributing factors among various technologies and understand what technical issues are key to a project's success
- Consistently identify and implement improvements to the existing IT infrastructure
- Must be able to see projects and work items in terms of functionality, hardware, financial considerations
- Assist in managing vendor relationships and contracts
- Ability to understand and interpret requirements, identifies project stake holders, analyse requirements and extract those of architectural significance
- Formulate designs and/or design recommendations which meet various requirements; balancing the goals and constraints of existing solutions
- Must be able to communicate the architecture options and details making sure that everyone understands as well as present various views of the system as appropriate to different audiences
- Must provide support to the IT Teams in that they are able to realize proposed architecture requirements with a combination of mentoring and direct project or task involvement
- Research the latest tools, technologies, and strategies as they relate to current projects. Help evaluate, prototype, and introduce them to the technology team
- Identify risks and escalate to management appropriately
- Present and propose solutions, and alternatives, to requirements with an eye to scalability, flexibility, ease of maintenance and time to delivery
- Mentor and train other infrastructure employees in the current virtualization technology, policies, processes, and standards
- Work directly with Business Owners, Project Managers, and Business Analysts to vet the details of requirements and ensure that delivered systems are consistent with agreed upon architecture requirements
- Provide input into the infrastructure roadmap governed by strategic direction, business requirements as well as resourcing and financial constraints
- Liaise with multiple teams across the enterprise to ensure alignment across technology portfolios
- Liaise with management and support teams to assist in issue resolution
- Assist in scoping and costing of projects
- Guide, influence, and grow team members and business colleagues knowledge base
- Work with other SMEs and technical support teams in the pursuit of technically excellent solutions
- Excellent problem solving skills required
- Additional duties as assigned
Other Duties
- Must be an excellent collaborator. This position must work closely with resources throughout IT and other business functions. The incumbent must promote excellent customer service and leadership through example.
Skills/Tools
- Requires a bachelor's degree in area of specialty and 10 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Minimum of a Microsoft MCITP, or other Microsoft Server certifications.
- VMware or Citrix certifications
- 8 years of experience in a data Centre environment
- Extensive experience with full implementation of a Virtual Desktop in an enterprise
- MS SQL Server experience and Exchange 2010/SharePoint 2010 implementation skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of a wide variety hardware, storage solutions, standards and protocols
- Experience with popular web content management systems such as SharePoint
- Deep working experience with server and desktop virtualization technologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be a persuasive speaker and presenter
- Work well under pressure with short timelines
- Strategic and Innovative thinking and solutions
- Extensive working knowledge of Citrix, VMware, NetApp MS SQL, and MS Windows
- Familiar with a variety of the remote field systems management, concepts, practices, and procedures
- Ability to work well within a team environment
- Ability to work a minimum of 40 hours a week
German language is highly desirable.
