You are a subject matter expert on the hosting of VMware virtual Servers within the organisation. The role holder is expected to establish and maintain best practice standards for configuration of related technologies including server, networking and storage hardware, and ensure that high levels of performance and availability are delivered from data centre locations.
You require a VCP certification and must be able to demonstrate a thorough understanding of production VMware infrastructure. You ideally have significant engineering experience gained within a busy SaaS environment. A background in Banking/Finance and German language skills would be a great advantage.
Applicants should have experience in the majority of the following:
At least 5 years commercial data centre experience working with the following technologies:
VMware ESX & Vsphere (V4.1)
Windows AD infrastructure (incl AD, DNS, DHCP, WINS)
Storage Area Networks, including FC and iSCSI switching
Windows Server (up to 2008) including Microsoft Cluster Services
Linux server
Microsoft IIS web server (6.0 & 7.0) configuration and management
Server hardware ideally HP (experience with HP Insight Manager)
4-6+ years' experience working in a server operations team environment for Windows and/or Linux Servers.
VMware ESX Management 3.5 vSphere ESXi 4.1 and 5.0; Virtual Centre Management; VMware ESX Installations & Upgrades; VMware P2V & V2V; and VMware SRM (Site Recovery Manager) & DRS
A good understanding of networks & DMZs
VMware License and contract management
A working knowledge of the infrastructure underpinning the VMware infrastructure - SAN, enterprise-class disk arrays. Working knowledge of Windows application Servers. Good knowledge of all elements of ESXi 4 - Update Manager, HA, DRS etc
Hands-on experience within data-centre environments.
