This position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, is for a senior Consultant to support the software development and maintenance of satellite monitoring and control systems and applications designed with an object-oriented approach and Client Server architecture.
Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding Real Time environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures.
The Consultant will work in the client's operations department.
The key experience and attributes sought are:
- 5 years experience in the definition, development and maintenance of Satellite Mission Control software applications for space missions
- Knowledge of and work experience with space related standards (ECSS and CCSDS)
- 7 years software development experience using a formal life cycle resulting in deliveries to customers
- Extensive experience in ground segment AIV related activities
- Experience developing software using Object Oriented methods
- Development experience using C++ and Java under both Windows and Unix platforms
- Experience in the development of software using continuous integration methods
- Knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite and document management systems
- Experience using configuration management and anomaly and reporting tracking tools
Candidates should possess a University degree or equivalent. Fluency in English is essential. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 2 years starting in January 2013 with two options to extend for further periods of one year each.
