For our customer, an inter-governmental organisation located in Darmstadt/Germany we are looking for a Communication Network Engineer.

TASKS

The Consultant shall provide requirements analysis, architecture design and requirement implementation of the networks system. The duties range from the analysis, design, installation, testing and subsequently maintenance of the communications networks system. This may include the setting-up and implementation of maintenance policies and procedures, the support to the procurement of hardware and software, and the co-ordination with external service providers. In particular the tasks will include:

  • Support to requirements analysis;
  • Support to design architecture definition;
  • Support to reviews;
  • Definition of Network requirements;
  • Implementation of Network requirements;
  • Extension of network in order to integrate requirements;
  • Integration, Verification and Validation of the network system;
  • Analysis, planning and performance of network evolutions,
  • Generation and update of technical documentation;

PROFILE

In addition to having a university degree (or equivalent), the consultant shall have at least 5 working years experience in network architecture definition, network requirements definition, administration and troubleshooting of networks in distributed systems.
In addition the consultant shall have demonstrated experience in the area of requirements analysis, design review and architecture design.
The experience shall have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and Server Side, and by high availability requirements.
The consultant shall have current Cisco certification or be able to substantiate equivalent experience.

Knowledge and hands-on experience with the following is mandatory:

  • Experience of 24/7 operations;
  • Cisco network equipment and architectures, Cisco IOS;
  • Cisco security equipment and architectures, PIX, ASA, FWSM, IPSEC VPN, TACACS+;
  • Routing protocols: OSPF, BGP, RIP;
  • High availability network architecture and protocols eg HSRP, VSS;
  • Network management: JFF, Nagios, HP Openview, Tivoli, Cisco Works, RMON, SNMP;
  • Satellite communications: DVB, VSAT, Point to Point links;
  • IP multicast and PGM;
  • QOS and traffic shaping;
  • WAN interfacing: using SDH, E1/E3, ISDN, leased lines;
  • Timing systems: GPS receivers, NTP Servers;
  • Protocol analysers, Bit error rate testers;
  • Tools: Snort, tcpdump, iptables, cricket, iperf.

The consultant shall be familiar with the following HW/SW systems, particularly in the areas of network interface configuration, TCP stack configuration and high availability interface configuration:

  • Solaris, Linux, AIX, Microsoft Windows operating systems;
  • Configuration and monitoring of network protocols and applications, eg DNS, SNMP, FTP, NTP.
  • Experience is required with Microsoft Office Suite, including MS-Visio.

The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills.
The working language for the position is English, French knowledge is an advantage.
