This position is for a consultant with a minimum of 3 years experience of operational processing of scientific or engineering data.

Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellites with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. The successful applicant will be part of their Meteorological Operations Division and will contribute to the maintenance and development of the data processing facilities. He/She shall contribute to the design, implementation and testing of operational processing, monitoring and data validation software, initially for the GOME-2 instrument.

In addition to having a University degree in a relevant discipline such as computer science, physics, mathematics or remote sensing, the consultant will have the following knowledge and experience:

  • Development of operational product generation software using C++ in a UNIX environment
  • Maintenance and development of operational software written in Java
  • The use of SQL and the use of databases such as Oracle or MySQL to support analysis and reporting of products data
  • Operational implementation of scientific or engineering algorithms from sample code and/or a given specification
  • Configuration control of software and data

Fluency in English is essential and a working knowledge of French desirable. This is a freelance contract assignment due to start in June/July 2012 for a period of three years with two extension options of 1 year each.
