L955 PC Support EngineerThis position, based near Frankfurt in Germany, calls for a minimum of three years experience of end user support of PCs, peripherals and basic MS Office and Windows functionality.
Our client is responsible for establishing and operating weather forecasting and Earth observation satellite programmes with associated data telemetry and dissemination operations. Vast quantities of data are produced and user communities throughout the world are able to access both current and historical data sets. The demanding Real Time environment places much emphasis on adherence to quality and configuration management standards and procedures.
The role will embrace:-
Installation and administration of desktop and notebook systems, peripherals and MS Windows
Provision of first and second level user support
Documentation of actions related to service desk calls or user requests
Physical installation of computing hardware including cabling work
Interfacing with hardware suppliers regarding procurement, warranty and maintenance issues
Maintaining a hardware inventory in SAP
Managing the stock of spare equipment
The key experience and attributes sought are :-
End-user support in general, and in repairing failed hardware components on PCs and notebooks, as well as dealing with hardware driver installations
Familiarity with, in particular, HP desktops and notebooks, Ricoh printers and MS Office
A customer focus and service orientation together with effective interpersonal skills in dealing with demanding customers
Installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of MS Windows XP and Windows 7
Some of the following attributes would be advantageous:-
Certification for maintenance of HP desktops and notebooks
Knowledge of installing structured cabling systems and networking hardware
Experience of performing inventory and stock management
The following activities will gradually become of importance to the position but, if required, the job holder will be trained in-house:-
ISO 9000 or ITIL service methodology
MS Active Directory and Microsoft Management Console
Software distribution systems (eg Novell ZENworks, MS SMS)
Fluency in English is essential and any abilities with French or German useful. This is a freelance contract assignment with an initial period of 1 year starting in March 2012 with two options to extend for further periods of two years each making a probable contract length of five years.
