- Our client is building an Integrated Facility for Structural Biology at the new PETRA III synchrotron radiation source at DESY, Hamburg.
- The core of the facility will be formed by three X-ray beamlines that will provide world-class conditions for diffraction and scattering experiments.
- At present, the beamlines for X-ray crystallography and small-angle X-ray scattering are being commissioned; the start of full operation is expected in the next 1-2 years.
- The “Software Engineer” will support scientists and engineers in the design, implementation, documentation, continuous improvement and maintenance of the integrated beamline control, in particular motion control, as well as data acquisition systems.
- Tasks will range from scripting experimental flow and instrument server programming to creating user front-end applications.
- The Software Engineer will also support external visiting scientists.
- Applicants should have an engineering master or equivalent degree in computing or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in control software and application programming of scientific instruments is required.
- The ideal candidate should have proven skills in C++, Java, PYTHON, QT, LabVIEW or similar tools.
- Experience with client-server applications on distributed computing platforms is important.
- Knowledge about automation and robotics is an advantage.
- The working language is English.
