About the Role
The Senior Connected Car engineer role is located within McLaren Automotive’s Connected Car team, responsible for development and delivery of Connected Services and Cyber Security across the McLaren vehicle product range.
This is an opportunity for an electrical engineer with competencies in software, telematics, connectivity and offboard platform integration to join the team for delivery of current programs, and to support future planning and technical roadmap activities of future programs.
Accountabilities
Project and supplier management of Telematic Control Unit hardware and software
Integration of eSIM connectivity to the TCU
Ownership of eCall function throughout development cycle, including system and vehicle-level certification.
Ownership of Stolen Vehicle Tracking function throughout development cycle, including system and vehicle-level Thatcham approval.
Integration between TCU and offboard service-delivery platforms
Authoring and executing Validation plans
Creation and release of parts in bill-of-materials
Authoring technical specifications, RFP documentation, test plans, project plans and diagnostic software specifications
Supporting Cyber Security compliance activities including Pen testing and Threat assessments
Skills and Experience
Experience of vehicle development processes and delivery with an OEM or Tier 1 vendor
Experience of specifying, delivering and validating automotive electronic systems and features.
In-depth understanding of vehicle telematic systems and protocols
Knowledge and understanding of telecommunication systems and architectures from SIM through to RAN and Core networks
Experience project managing and certifying eCall, ERA-Glonass and Thatcham-approved Stolen Vehicle Tracking systems
Knowledge of Systems integration for the purposes of SIM and Service activation and lifecycle management
Understanding of Cyber Security concepts and principles
Knowledge and experience of creating technical specifications in IBM DOORS for systems and features on vehicle architectures, comprising networks and protocols including CAN, ODX, SOME/IP, HTTPS and MQTT.
Knowledge of Agile, Waterfall and V-Model methodologies

Excellent communication skills to enable cross-functional working and management of multiple suppliers
Strong team working to support delivery of challenging projects in a small agile team
Commitment and resilience to deliver technically complex features against challenging timelines, with requisite discipline and focus.
Enjoys fast-paced and high-pressure environments with high-levels of change
Flexibility to support team-mates and colleagues with program deliverables outside of own role
Passionate about connected technology and its introduction across the supercar segment
Proactive and high energy approach to project delivery; able to organise self and work independently where necessary to ensure deliverables being met
Enthusiasm to embrace change and support creation of new processes where necessary to enable delivery and operation of Connected Services
Education
Bachelor or Master’s degree (2.1 or higher) in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Telecommunications, Systems Design or related subject areas
Agile software development qualification such as Certified Scrum Master considered a bonus
Fluent English speaker, additional languages also useful
Onsite presence: One or two times this year. Next year to be seen, depends also on Covid-19 but is expected to be a bit more often as SOP will take place in Apr. / May 2021.
