Functional safety freelance role- 12 month contract- €110p/h- Munich- January start

Due to their rapid growth on the market, my client is looking for a functional safety expert to start in January on a 12 Month contract. They are searching urgently for a freelancer to allow for the introduction of new and exciting automotive technology across their new range of vehicles. You will be at the forefront of the company's projects across 2020.

Principal Accountabilities
  • Define the vehicle level safety policy, outlining the scope of work for a specific vehicle programme, ensuring that this is followed by all the relevant parties during the vehicle development
  • Define and maintain the vehicle level safety plan, according to ISO 26262 and the vehicle programme gateways, tailoring the necessary activities to the specific programme
  • Setup and structure the vehicle item definitions according to the programme safety policy, supporting or actively producing the related documentation (requirements specs, analyses, test specs, etc.)
  • Specify and maintain the vehicle level safety case, providing compelling and defensive arguments
  • Interface with the safety assessor and with the safety auditor respectively for the purpose of the safety assessments and the safety audits


Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Awareness of the definitions, lifecycle requirements and recommendations of ISO 26262
  • Understanding of the automotive electrical architectures, including the AUTOSAR standard and software integration paradigms
  • Familiarity with the automotive communication protocols and standards (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret and apply the ISO 26262 requirements and recommendations, effectively and efficiently tailoring the safety lifecycle specifically for each programme and for each system
  • Ability to carry out gap analysis, as well as carry out and/or review Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Fault Tree Analyses (FTA)
  • Ability to produce formal documentation to a highly professional standard, providing structured, compelling and defensive arguments
  • Ability in the production of formal specifications with IBM Rational DOORS
  • Capability of defining new and maintaining existing functional safety development processes with critical attention to the maximisation of cost and efficiency, aiming to the continuous improvement of the functional safety activities
  • Experience in the definition of hardware and software (ECU) high-level architectures for safety-critical applications
  • Experience in the definition of functional safety requirements for safety critical systems and vehicle electrical architectures
