Tätigkeitenbeschreibung
For our client in North Rhine-Westphalia we are currently looking for a Mathematical and Systems Modelling Consultant (m/f/d) / "Techno-economic modelling consultant" (m/f/d)

Projekt background:
Based on previous experiences from a microgrid demonstration site in Sweden, our client has demonstrated the potential of new, innovative technologies for local balancing in order to guarantee the secure and reliable operation of a local energy system that relies on a renewable energy source penetration of up to 100%.
The next steps embrace the evaluation of the applicability of the lessons learnt from the demonstration site to other sites within the European energy system landscape, further the identification of new demonstration sites and the support of internal operational units for system integration.
Therefore, new assessment models are developed to examine the technical and economic potential of new, innovative technologies for local balancing while local specifications and electric grid constraints shall be considered. The developed models shall further identify and create a pipeline of promising projects, in which these innovative technologies will be implemented and assessed under real-world conditions.
Output / Objective:
Together with internal regional units and external suppliers, the potential for commercial projects will be evaluated based on the techno economic analysis activities and outputs. This shall support the launch of new products and services in the area of decentral energy systems across our clients´ commercial units.

Tasks:
Development of mathematical models to answer key business and energy system related questions.
Utilization of commercial energy systems modelling software for the creation of business case analysis
Support for internal businesses (in Germany, UK, Sweden, Hungary) through provision of expert mathematical modelling or optimization consultancy in areas like energy systems, energy markets, commercial risk assessment
Project management and ownership of delivery on time and to quality, cost and customer satisfaction requirements.
Support and steering of academic researchers (onsite master’s students and collaboration with universities in European research projects) in the development of mathematical models and data science tools for energy systems.
Active management of customer relationship, identification of customer requirements and development associated business opportunities for the business. Development of clear work proposals.
To provide relevant business units with an expert business and systems modelling consultancy.
Exposure to varied topics, e.g. electrical vehicles, PV integration on MV lines, business park energy system sizing, operation of onsite generation and storage assets (electrical and thermal), different regulative setups (Adeje, Swedish tariff systems, …)
Model development and onsite validation

Required Skills:
Experience in project management and energy- & power system modelling
University degree in relevant Scientific, Mathematics, Engineering or Business discipline.
Proven experience of Data Analysis and Mathematical and Systems Modelling.
High proficiency in MATLAB, Python or similar software.
First experience with time series analysis and knowledge about diverse data science techniques.
Ability to easily structure complex problems, translate into solvable software models and communicate results to stakeholders.
Commercial awareness and good communication skills with a high degree of flexibility.
Outgoing, creative personality, who seeks innovative solutions to problems.
High motivation, initiative and ability to work independently and in an international environment.
Fluent in English, German is a plus

Nice-to-Have:
Practical energy network (thermal/electrical) system experience – from a specification and integration perspective
Kowledge & Understanding of the Engineering requirements
Kowledge of DNO requirements & regulations for connecting systems into networks
Kowledge about system optimization
Knowledge about power system modelling (power-flow calculation)
