Infrastructure Specialist - Wintel Data Centre Engineer
Urgent contract requirement with global investment bank in Frankfurt, ideal candidate from a wintel background and experience with Citrix
Role and Responsibilities
Wintel Infrastructure Support Engineer dealing with highly skilled operational tasks, key projects deliverables, proof of concepts, changes to our clients environment/associated infrastructure as well as escalations, trouble-shooting, security controls and maintenance of security polices/standards.
The candidate would be also responsible for assisting colleagues through knowledge transfer, actively participate in meetings, maintain and contribute to security standards and policies as well as maintaining peer review processes for change management task. Overall, the candidate will need to be able to work in a highly variable mixed environment and must display personal initiative and drive to be successful
Ensuring the stability and functional operation of the server infrastructure (physical/virtual) and core services such as Citrix, Active Directory, virtual environments, file services, e-mail services (MS Exchange, Mobile Iron) and other services in IT Operations team remit
Servicing operational and change requests, incident/problem resolution including root cause analysis
Working as part of a larger global team whilst also operating independently on certain issues such as requests and IT infrastructure related projects
Assisting colleagues through knowledge transfer, actively participating in meetings, maintain and contributing to security standards and policies as well as maintaining peer review processes for change management tasks
Supporting IT teams in the management of regional IT projects to ensure delivery to time, scope and budget
Supporting IT teams in the management of regional IT costs & helping to compile annual budgets in conjunction with the business and senior IT management
Managing IT vendors in the region ensuring service level agreements are in place where necessary, agreed service levels are delivered to and that the best value is achieved for the Bank
Working with IT PMO and Global Business Continuity Management to plan and co-ordinate business continuity activity as required
Provide backup coverage for end user/1st level support as required to service desk.
Key Competencies & Qualifications
Technical Skills
- Able to complete engineering, architecture and design work, evaluate products, create proposals, conduct testing, write documentation and implement resilient solutions that meet the Banks standards
- Detailed knowledge of:
o Virtualization platforms (ESXi 6.0 and 6.5)
o Windows Server R2
o Microsoft Active Directory R2
o Citrix XenApp 7.XX
o Citrix Xen Desktop VDI technologies
o Root cause analysis methodologies
o Microsoft Lync 2013/Shoretel Messaging
General Skills
- Good working knowledge of ITIL with a strong grasp of incident/change/problem management as well as a proven ability to manage & deliver projects
- Excellent team working and relationship building skills - ability to lead teams and manage/motivate staff whilst retaining a strong client focus

- Ability to multitask and work hours required to meet deadlines (including flexibility to perform out of hours tasks and changes if required)

Qualifications & Experience
- A university degree in a technical field and/or equivalent qualifications
- Experience of team leading/management and delivering high quality operational support ideally in an investment bank or similar financial/blue chip organisation
- Substantial experience in a senior role performing server Infrastructure support; ideally in an investment bank or similar financial/blue chip organisation
- Strong knowledge of Citrix and virtualization technologies, in particular Citrix XennApp/Xendesktop and Vmware is essential - certifications or equivalent experience is required
- Certification on the above mentioned Microsoft technologies is desirable
- Hands-on experience supporting high-end critical systems and applications, enterprise clustered and HA systems
- Experience of Enterprise hardware systems such as:
o Enterprise and mid-range storage systems (3PAR)
o HP ProLiant Servers and Blade systems
o HP Tape libraries
o Backup software (CommVault)
- Language requirements: English mandatory
