We are currently recruiting for a Data Centre Engineer for an initial 12 months contract assignment based in Munich, Germany. (Duration is likely to extend)
Data Center Engineer: Data Center Engineer to support the clients infrastructure on a physical level with hardware and monitor via software methods.
Role Hours of Work: 8 hours per day, covering a 12-hour service window Monday - Friday Early (07:00 - 15:00) Late (11:00 - 19:00)
Description of Tasks
Monitor, diagnose, and resolve complex network and computer system issues
Manage and administer Servers, networks, and applications such as DNS, FTP, and Web
Maintain internal network structure of a data center by managing Routers configurations.
Install/commission, configure, and maintain Switches, Servers, Firewalls, and hard drives or any other hardware requested to be installed
Troubleshoot network port problems to identify and fix performance issues
Provide solutions to complex problems on the integration of various technologies
Design plans as well as lead initiatives for the optimization and restructuring of network architecture
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of network administration and firmware integration
Monitor the environmental conditions of a data center to ensure they are optimum for Servers, Routers, and other devices
Perform system repairs and update software/operating systems
Calibrate and monitor data center Servers to ensure efficient performance
Collaborate with IT handlers, sales, and data center managers to develop action plan for improved operations
Conduct inspections on power and cooling systems to ensure they are operational and efficient
Organize the floor space that harbor data center equipment to allow for easy accessibility
Resolve operational, infrastructure or hardware incidents in a data center.
Support the Data-centre management with information regarding the
physical/capacity planning (space, power, UPS and cooling)
Support the EPO data centre policies and standards
Interface with staff from related departments or from contracting companies
Escort visitors in and around the data-centres.
Ensure the correctness and availability of the configuration databases
Support staff that are responsible for hardware inventories, physical
installation of hardware and connectivity to the EPO network.
Physical installation, configuration and de-installation of hardware such as Servers, Switches (LAN), Routers, Firewalls and connection to the Client network where needed by means of copper or fibre optics
Provide identification of equipment and cables by barcoding or labelling
On call for Datacentre and LAN equipment
Add, Remove, document and label connectivity.
Remove non used assets items incl. cabling and hardware.
Daily visual hardware checks.
Support installation of test Lab's.
Soft Skills Required
Strong Knowledge of ITSM Foundation in ITIL v3 or equivalent Good Focus on Customer Service Strong understanding of SOA (Service Oriented Architecture)

DCES (Data Center Engineering Specialist) - Desirable
