The QA & Testing Engineer works with the test team to develop testing strategies and devise test plans in order to ensure that
applications meet business requirements and maintain high quality standards. The QA & Testing Lead Engineer
takes a lead role in the establishment or execution of one or more test specialties for a larger testing unit or programme.
The QA & Testing Engineer identifies the tasks and resources needed to ensure that their specialised portion of the testing process
meets software quality requirements prior to release into a live environment. The QA & Testing Engineer may specialise in a specific
area of the testing process such as test automation, performance testing, testing process, test environments, test data provisioning.
In this context the QA & Testing Engineer will specialise in relevant tools such as Performance Centre, Quick Test Professional,
Quality Centre/ALM and Jira. Alternately the Lead QA and Testing Principal Engineer may possess or demonstrate specialist
Business Testing knowledge or exceptional business/functional expertise.
• Conducts Proof of concept using technical tools and evaluates ROI and feasibility studies.
• Creates best of breed framework/harness for automation/performance testing.
• Analysis of system requirements and design of suitable automation/performance test strategies.
• Tests effort estimation based on experience, tools and historical data.
• Provides vision and direction to area of specialisation/accountability.
• Champions activities and establishes best practices in specialist area, working to implement best of breed test practices and
processes in area of specialism.
• Where applicable, ownership of UAT activities related to the area of business specialism.
• Champions business requirements reviews and extracts into test requirements.
• Creates test data, writing and ownership of test cases.
• Tailors process/frameworks aligned to business area need to ensure and leverage increased test efficiency.
• Analyses testing process deficiencies for improvement practices and trending.
• Documents test summary and provision of product improvement suggestions. Communicates the results.
• Trains/Mentors existing projects teams in area of specialism.
• Ensures conformance to defined test processes and re-use of shared enterprise assets where possible.
• Ownership of specialist testing activities at a programme level.
• Manages key stakeholder expectations and delivers against agreed standards
Experience / Exposure
• Proven experience in testing roles and/or leading testing teams.
• Technology knowledge and expertise.
• Proven experience of industry standard test tools.
• Experience of defining and implementing tool strategy.
• Experience of defining and managing tool frameworks.
• Proven experience of defining and implementing technical test strategies.
• Proven experience defining and delivering training in technical tools.
• Customer and service orientation to support interaction with team resources and clients.
• Performance and productivity oriented to drive toward quality testing outcomes and results.
• Previous programme and project management experience.
• Proven experience with Risk Management and Control policies and procedures.
• Proactively initiates, develops and maintains effective working relationships with team members.
• Participation and/or completion in Testing certification programs (Six Sigma, CSTE, ISTQB, ISEB, CSTP or tool specific
certifications).
