SAP PMO Programme Planner

Whitehall Resources are currently looking for a SAP PMO Programme Planner to based in Germany

Role:

  • This role is ultimately responsible for the development and maintenance of multiple release plans to deliver a SAP Programme. Multiple release plans are to be maintained within the programme PMO reflecting a delivery critical path which is aligned and underpinned by a number of internal work stream and supplier plans feeding into each release.
  • The PMO Planner must understand the content, drive delivery through active assurance, risk and issue identification and ensure the programme is set for success via a robust planning framework. The Planner will also need to focus on planning assurance which is a key objective of their role. This is a dynamic role, in a fast paced environment. It is critical to ensure integrity in the roll up process and detailed plans feed into the PMO Programme level plans reflecting the actual delivery. The role requires a very good understanding of the Software Delivery Life cycle, and understands the activities required of a large scale IT/Business Transformation Programme.
  • The PMO Planner will coach and support Workstreams and Project Manager's to ensure rework and level of churn can be reduced and quality improved.

Experience Required

  • 10 years or more overall IT experience. Minimum of 5 years experience planning large Projects and Programmes from start-up through all life cycles stages to completion.
  • Experience with the following:

- Knowledge of development/implementation life cycles
- Planning Experience preferably in SAP Environment
- Multiple Plan linkage, PBS/WBS creation, report creation from MS Project.
- Able to demonstrate skills in negotiating with people at different levels.
- Strong ability to prioritise work and manage multiple concurrent activities
- Highly analytic, ability to work independently; analyze business needs and impact of change.
- Programme Management Experience
- Microsoft Project (Expert)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (Expert/Intermediate)
- Microsoft Excel Microsoft (Expert/Intermediate)
- Communication Skills up to Senior Manager/Director Level
- Stakeholder Engagement skills up to Senior Manager/Director Level
- Prince 2/PMI certification

Responsibilities

To provide planning support to the Programme/Project Management function.

  • Support for programme/project planning, including collation of information to enable project and programme reporting.
  • Liaison with project managers/planners to create and monitor elements of a consolidated E2E Programme/Project Plan and achieve associated reporting objectives.
  • Ensure that Planning Standards are fully communicated and followed
  • Ensure that Programme objectives are being met and that the impact of any scope changes and schedule delays are reported and understood at the appropriate management level
  • Ensure Programme plans are controlled and monitored and that potential problem areas are identified at an early stage to enable timely and corrective action to be taken
  • Ensure that the planning tool is correctly implemented and maintained, and that any technical planning issues, particularly those which are tool related, are quickly resolved
  • Provide a central reporting function to the Programme Office to ensure that Management has visibility across the target projects or programmes, that Programme objectives are being met and that any schedule or cost impacts are quickly identified to enable timely mitigation
  • Provide the programmes with advanced planning support - the application of critical path/earned value/estimating techniques, resource/productivity analysis
  • Maintains active alignment with company policies and procedures.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Skilled in ensuring all project details are correct before reporting to the stakeholders.
  • Skilled in creating standards and Guideline documents to aid project planners.
  • Skilled in prioritising and managing multiple concurrent activities in order to meet the needs of the programme. Achieves tasks of high quality and within the required timescales.
  • Skilled in running programme plans in a PMO environment on large Projects/Programmes. Establishes procedures to monitor results and thereby avoid forseeable potential problems or highlight problem areas to be addressed. In depth experience of creating "what-if" scenarios to check impact of schedule changes across a Programme.
  • Skilled at creating management reports and coordinating Programme and Steerco reporting.
  • Skilled in working under pressure and responding positively to conflict situations.
  • Skilled in conveying information appropriately and accurately.
  • Skilled in supporting, mentoring and training project planners to enable them to create and maintain component projects of the E2E programme plan.
  • Builds partnerships with appropriate people both internally and externally. Able to demonstrate skills in negotiating with people at different levels. Will have led or managed a PMO team and therefore competent to deputise for PMO Manager.
  • Skilled at using project planning tools (in particular MS Project) and presentation tools (in particular Excel/Powerpoint). Understands PBS and WBS concepts. Additional advantage - MS Project Server/Visual Basic.
