IT Infrastructure Service Manager with focus on Hadoop
- Scope and purpose of role
Scope: the service manager function primarily takes care of organizational & technical matters associated with the three bottom-up infrastructure layers (referred to as ITH), namely
Hadoop application platform operations (4)
Platform operations (operating system, virtualization layer, etc.) (3)
IT infrastructure operations (eg network, Firewall, etc.) (2)
Data center facility management (1)
Furthermore, the ITH service manager function works towards establishing a Hadoop PaaS service (4th layer) to the benefit of the customer (see Service Development section below)
Purpose: AMOS Global Analytics Platforms (GAP), sitting at the application platform layer, will become a wrapper for all underlying AMOS infrastructure services; the service manager function acts as single point of contact towards the customer
- Coordination & Provider Management (IBM)
Facilitate communication between business owner, service delivery, support and ITH management
Organize regular service reviews (once 4th layer Hadoop application platform service has been defined & fully established by GAP)
Lead day-to-day operational activities
Lead and coordinate other internal departments and external vendors for specific customer demand wherever feasible
- Service Development (the service is not yet fully established)
Define the service: description, usage, cost and pricing, delivery, support
Work with the business owner to determine strategy and service level goals for a service
Continuous improvement of the Hadoop application platform including underlying ITH layers to the benefit of Service Management and Operations processes
- Change & Incident Management
Lead ITH change management (take changes from planning through approval to implementation)
Provide process guidance and coordination for significant incidents
- SLA Management
Coordinate SLA creations, reviews, and updates
Identify and publish service metrics
