Data Centre Operator

Job Description:
The position covers the support of the customer's Data Centre Activities. The main responsibilities are to manage the Media and Asset base of the customer's IT systems.
Daily tasks are mounting tapes within agreed SLAs, answering telephones and using customer specific tools as a problem & change tool and asset management as well as providing escort service to external technicians. The Data Centre Operator has no direct supervisory responsibilities to personnel and only supervises machines and terminals.
The team manager is the single point of contact (SPOC) at the location for all escalations.

Main Accountabilities for the Data Centre Operator:

*Complete tasks to specified standards
*Fully aware of sources for technical and procedural guidance
*Mount tapes within agreed Service Level Agreements set for specific customer accounts
*Ensure all media movements are recorded in the appropriate logs and databases in order to maintain audit compliancy
*Ensure scratch amounts are correct
*Answers telephones within four rings with clarity, informs the caller of the location Tape Library and provides his/her name
*Responds to problems quickly and efficiently using approved procedures.
*Alerts the Duty Team Leader/Supervisor to actual/potential Service problems.
*Check problem & change system for problems and changes affecting the Media Service
*Use of Microsoft Outlook for email
*Work rotation standby cover
*Assist with media changes as required
*Respond to requests to initialise/destroy/re-label tapes
*Completes ad hoc activities at Team Leader/Supervisor request
*Host HP Customer Engineers into the machine halls as required

Working hours: Monday to Friday 8am - 5pm (fixed hours, no flextime)
Possibility to be included in standby rotation after training period.
Standby includes Friday 5pm until following week Friday 8am, response time 1 hour onsite.

*Flexible and responsive to business demands.
*Able to work unsupervised and to follow shift work-sheet.
*Keen to learn and develop the Service.
*Alert and responsive to change.
*Able to communicate with all interfaces to the Media Library.
*Personable and a good team player.
*Able to follow process/procedures in a methodical manner.
*Willing to cover colleague's holiday/sickness periods on rota basis
*Clean driving license
