IT Systems Administrator

Our prestigious client is based in San Diego, California, with European headquarters in Munich, Germany.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior IT Administrator to join one of our prestigious global clients in the Munich, Germany office on a permanent, full time basis.

Your primary job duties will involve resolving end-user technical challenges, managing the office infrastructure as well as lab infrastructures, software installations/maintenance, computer deployments, peripheral maintenance, assisting with server deployments and maintenance, working with networking equipment, and general IT troubleshooting.

You will be responsible for maintaining and upgrading the development and QA lab systems. Additionally, this position will support corporate IT as local support for network and security needs. This means that the successful candidate for this position must be team-oriented whilst also being highly self-motivated. You will have both the experience and the strong initiative to oversee the environment, have the awareness to notice problems or ways to improve, and then communicate this back to the IT Manager on a regular basis. This is a position with - guided autonomy- .

You will be reporting to the IT Manager, based in the USA, 3 weekly status calls are mandatory and effective communication skills and the ability to work independently are a must. Travel to France and the USA on occasion is required.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Technical Duties (85%)

- Provide general IT support to Windows users
- Support, deploy and manage Windows and Linux-based server infrastructure
- Build and deploy physical and virtual Linux-based production and test servers
- Resolve server and network related technical challenges
- Submit project plans for various IT projects
- Execute on approved projects in accordance with management direction and corporate standards
- Manage enterprise backup solution
- Monitor and ensure security of company network
- Setup monitoring and alerting of production systems

Administrative Duties (15%)

- Meet regularly with IT Manager to provide status updates
- Monitor ticket queue and assign tickets to other team members
- Plan hardware and software deployments; select and purchase hardware and software
- Assist upper management in the development of IT policies and procedures
- Document IT processes and create physical & logical infrastructure diagrams
- Effectively communicate and work with developers and other systems administrators
- Provide backup coverage for team members
- Purchase needed equipment from approved vendors
- Keep accurate inventory of IT assets on-hand and regularly dispose of old assets

ESSENTIAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

- Excellent communication - clear, thoughtful, precise, and proactive
- 5+ years of experience in the management and administration of an enterprise IT environment
- Strong working knowledge of client operating systems and their support (Windows 7/8, some Linux) and their deployment using imaging systems
- Strong working knowledge of Windows Server Operating Systems (2003, 2008, 2012) and Windows Active Directory (AD, Group Policy)
- Basic understanding and hands-on experience with administrating Linux/Unix environments (Redhat, SUSE)
- Have a working knowledge and demonstrable experience managing enterprise backups for critical systems
- Have working knowledge of Cisco enterprise grade switches
- Advanced networking concepts (TCP/IP subnets, DNS, SMTP, Routing)
- Experience with keeping IT inventory, organizing assets, and disposal when necessary
- Have working knowledge of various server services (DHCP, DNS, DFS, NFS, etc.)
- Have working knowledge of vSphere, Virtual Center, & VMWare ESX 5+
- Have working knowledge of SAN, NAS, and other shared storage technologies

DESIRABLE SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
- Relevant industry certifications
- Experience with various scripting languages (Powershell, VBScript, bash shell, etc.)
Knowledge of the German language.
