For a global operational satellite agency, Eurocity is looking for a Scientific consultant for Polar System Second Generation for a two years contract with possibility of extension.
ROLE:
The role of the key person is to provide Scientific consultancy is sought in the area of Scatterometry. The key person shall have the experience and capability to fulfil the assigned tasks without supervision.
MANDATORY SKILLS:
- University degree in remote sensing, meteorology, oceanography, physics, or equivalent;
- At least three years of experience in scatterometry;
- Experience in Earth Observation satellite data processing;
- Very good skills in a higher programming language, such as C/C++, Java;
- Skills in writing scientific/technical documents
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office;
- Good inter-personal skills:
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
- Experience in understanding and writing requirements;
- Experience with the specification, development and validation of satellite data processing chains;
- Experience with calibration and product validation methods;
- Knowledge in radiative transfer.
TASKS:
- Preparation and maintenance of algorithm theoretical basis documents for the generation of level 1 products;
- Preparation and maintenance of product generation specifications for the product processing facilities;
- Prototyping of product generation functions;
- Generation and maintenance of product contents specifications;
- Preparation of test data;
- Preparation of calibration-validation plans;
- Contribution to the generation of performance budgets;
- Assessment of results from external studies;
- Contribution to the initiation of scientific support studies;
- Contribution to activities of instrument functional chain teams (IFCT)1 related to the scatterometer mission;
- Supporting the development of operational processing facilities by reviewing documents, participating in workshops, witnessing tests;
- Participation in system and relevant ground segment reviews.
- The consultancy will involve close cross-divisional interactions and interface with experts in various disciplines (system engineering, instruments, operations, science).
Details about the Polar System Second Generation (EPS-SG) of the company:
- To ensure continuity of the core missions supported by the current EPS/Metop system and to fulfil complementary user needs a follow-up programme, EPS-SG, is currently being implemented by our client, a global operational satellite agency. The EPS-SG space segment will be based on a two-satellite configuration with a launch readiness by 2021 for the first satellite and by 2022 for the second satellite. Recurrent satellites will be provided and launched in order to achieve a minimum of 21 years of operations. The company is developing and procuring its EPS-SG ground segment, capitalising on existing multi mission elements that are already in operation in the headquarters as well as in the Satellite Application Facilities (SAF) Network. The EPS-SG will have a strong heritage from the existing EPS with its Metop satellites and their operations.
