SAP Solution Design Lead

This position is directly responsible for creating and delivering the overall SAP Solution Design and the design and delivery of all configuration items within the various Releases of the Programme.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing subject matter expertise input into the Programme's Solution Design development and delivery activities.
  • Defining and maintaining Solution Design Blueprints, Business Process Master Lists, WRICEF catalogues etc for the tracking of progress, management of detailed design documentation, configuration, unit testing and resolution of issues affecting other areas of the Programme.
  • Mobilising and managing the Solution Design resources including permanent employees, contractors and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Providing subject matter expertise to validate and sign-off the functional designs. Coordinating interactions between the Solution Design and Development teams to ensure quality transition of functional designs into technical designs and deliverables.
  • Providing quality assurance of the overall Solution Design and Realisation phases of the Programme
  • Enforcing control and versioning for configuration items.
  • Ensuring compliance with best practices and standards.
  • Establishing SAP best practices and standards within the Solution Design team by establishing, improving, reviewing,:
  • The processes to be used.
  • Re-usable templates for project deliverables.
  • Standards documentation.
  • Quality assurance approach.
  • Working closely with all other team leads in delivering the overall Programme solution and deliverables.
  • Managing third party relationships and deliverables including System Integrators and providers of additional third party software and solutions.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Deep knowledge of the SAP ECC, SRM, BI/BO and related solution sets, their capabilities, strengths & weaknesses, future roadmaps and developments.
  • Strong SAP functional knowledge and SAP configuration skills in all core SAP finance modules.
  • Ability to translate complex and potentially conflicting Business requirements into pragmatic, SAP solutions that leverage standard functionality and minimise customisation.
  • Strong proficiency in the Solution Manager and its use within the SDLC for both new implementations and ongoing maintenance.
  • Solid experience in planning/architecture development and support, with experience integrating systems in multi-user, multi-platform, multitasking operating systems environments highly desirable.
  • Strong understanding of and experience with SDLC (design, build, test, deploy) and architectural methodologies and frameworks and their practical application. Experience in business system application design, development and installation, successfully leading development teams through several full life cycles of SAP software development.
  • Proven track record of participating in multi-level technology adoption including the successful development and implementation of technology roadmaps for large, enterprise-wide technology transformation initiatives.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into SAP terminology and SAP terminology into business terms, give business-oriented presentations to business users, demonstrate entire module(s) functionality to business users. Lead the definition of relevant business data
  • Demonstrates expertise, understanding, or knowledge in the following:
  • System analysis and design techniques (object-oriented, logical data modelling, etc.).
  • Technical architecture, current information systems supporting the enterprise
  • Providing architectural risk assessments and architecture reviews of software systems.
  • Functional analysis at the enterprise level
  • Advanced application architecture concepts work with database architecture concepts and techniques.
  • Information systems planning concepts and methods
  • Conceptual knowledge of information technologies and methodologies in Mainframe, mid-range and PC environments.
  • Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools.
  • Ability to provide accurate and timely project management information, by producing the relevant project deliverables eg Detailed Design documents.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, Matrix team environment. Collaborative style, customer-focused.
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills for working with other managers/leads, stakeholders, functional teams, development specialists and support teams. Must have solid written skills to support program documentation.
  • Ability to review existing processes, strategies, approaches and documentation and provide pragmatic and simple input/improvements.
  • Ability to produce high quality deliverables and work in an environment with competing priorities. Can multi-task effectively. Demonstrates results-orientation/initiative and strong work ethic; ability to master tactical details.
  • Ability to manage geographically dispersed teams, sourced from different suppliers - permanent employees, contractors and 3rd party suppliers.
  • Bring a creative approach to task fulfilment; acquire industry specific knowledge in employer's business.
  • Highly desirable certifications for this position may include the following:
  • Open Group Certified Architect
  • Open Group Master Architect
  • Microsoft Certified Architect (MCA)
  • Certified SAP Netweaver consultant

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years SAP experience - ranging from hands-on development and configuration, through design to management.
  • Minimum 3 full implementation life-cycles.
  • Minimum 5 years Solution Design leadership experience in multiple European/Global scenarios
  • Minimum 5 years working with complex vendor and solution landscapes.
  • Minimum 5 years leading SAP technical teams of up to 50 staff

Working Relationships

  • Reports to SAP Programme Manager or equivalent.
  • Direct supervisory responsibilities for circa 50 Solution Design team members through 4-5 process area leads.
