Project background
More than 20 years ago, Lotus Notes/Domino has been implemented at the client's site as the global Email and Collaboration Platform.
In 2013 the client has started the migration of Lotus Notes to other platforms. After the finalization of moving the Lotus Notes email environment to Microsoft Outlook, the client has started in 2016 the Lotus Notes Sunset Program to migrate the remaining applications to other platforms. First step in the Sunset Program is the analysis of the existing application environment.
To prepare the migration of the remaining Lotus Notes Applications, a technical scan is needed to assess the complexity of the existing applications and to find appropriate new platforms for potential migrations.
Target of the project
Target of the project is to perform a technical scan of all databases (app. 9.000) and remaining email files (app. 10.000 mail-in databases) in the Lotus Notes environment and to create several reports from the result. The applications are located on 51 Domino Servers globally. The reports should show (amongst others) the following results
General reports
- Functional analysis of the application environment
- Clustering of the application environment by technical complexity
- Potential for application consolidations
- Usage of workflow functionalities
- Usage of design templates
- Most used applications
- Web enabled applications
- Especially for mail databases (Usage of Notes mail-template, Customizations)
Technical reports
- Used technologies
- Email addresses used in applications
- Address book access
- Repeated code
- Unused code
- Scheduled agents
- Interfaces to other applications and platforms
- 3rd party applications
Tasks
- Analyse the technical Lotus Notes Setup in terms of readiness to perform the application scan
- Prepare the Lotus Notes Setup to perform the application scan
- Define key indicators
- Review of the Scan parameters
- Review the test application scan and reword the scan parameters if necessary.
- Analyse the scan and support the clustering of the results.
A detailed task list will be agreed after project start.
