My client, a global security vendor are looking for a network security consultant to join a project at their service provider customer on a long term contract in Bonn, Germany.

Resident Engineer - Security (SRX)
Reporting to the Customer Service leader or Team Leader, this is a highly technical role, providing architecture, design & testing on-site support for Junipers Network Products to Deutsche Telekom in particular the FMED department (FMED: Fixed Mobile Engineering Department). The Resident Engineer (RE) will be required to develop and maintain an expertise on the products deployed within the customer's network. This is a Full time position on-site at the customer location, working as part of a wider Juniper Service Delivery team.

Typical activities focussing on the Juniper product family are around the following key areas:

  • Design Validation and Verification testing
  • Interoperability testing
  • Software Versioning
  • Implementation support
  • Knowledge Transfer to customer staff

RESPONSIBILITIES
On-site technical support to the Customer may also require the RE:

  • To participate in design and information gathering workshops to understand the customers existing network design and technical requirements
  • To understand the customers organizational structure and become familiar with the customer's network implementation and support processes and procedures;
  • To carry out testing of new features and functionality required by the customer in a laboratory environment and to implement and verify that they are operating correctly in the live network;
  • To test new releases and fixes to operating software and to ensure that they are implemented and functioning correctly in the live network;
  • To produce a written summary report of the status of equipment and network status on regular basis to the customer;
  • To hold technology workshops with the customer to discuss equipment and network;
  • To provide knowledge transfer to the customer's design and engineering personnel to configure and operate Juniper Networks products.

REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate for this role must be able to demonstrate the following credentials:

  • Detailed technical experience in the testing, installation and operation of IP Routers in a Service provider environment. This includes hands-on operation of management tools and network analyzers.
  • In-depth knowledge of, and experience with active network components and the protocols surrounding IP Service Provider networks is required (CCIE, JNCIP/JNCIE level).
  • Profound knowledge of the following Juniper components: SRX5800 and SRX650.
  • These skills should include:

    • IPv4 and IPv6, IP subnetting and supernetting and hierarchical routing principles.
    • Routing protocol operation (OSPF, IS-IS, BGP)
    • L2 and L3 VPNs and the associated technologies (L2TP, MPLS, etc.)
    • QoS/CoS, Multicast
    • IPsec encryption/decryption
    • Understanding of network/Router security and common practices.
    • Good understanding of mobile network environments (3G/4G LTE)
    • Experience with working with Juniper Networks equipment and JUNOS
    • Sufficient troubleshooting skills are a requirement.
    • Strong Interpersonal skills. Ability to work as part of a team, with multiple departments within Juniper and with the host company in a responsible and professional fashion.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work under pressure.
    • Self starter, team player, personable, enthusiastic, hard working, and enjoy interfacing with customers on a day to day basis.
    • Hands-on configuration experience, and operational knowledge of Juniper Networks Products is beneficial.
      Specifics for this position:
    • Knowledge of Juniper SRX-Series is a huge plus.
    • Knowledge of network implementation best practices.
    • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
      Must be stromg in both German and English and possess good written and verbal communication skills. 

    Location: Bonn, Greater Cologne - Germany
    This role involves limited international travel (eg training, internal events).
