Windows Systems Administrator
Role Description
Due to our continued success, we are now hiring for a Wintel Engineer/Systems Administrator to join the Infrastructure Technology Services (ITS) practice. The ITS team are embarking on a series of initiatives to radically reduce and optimise the existing estate which includes decommissioning, reducing the Solaris footprint, virtualizing Windows 2008 Servers and migrating stand-alone Oracle databases to a centrally managed shared service - the Database Hosting Service for Oracle (DHS-O).
Overview of the role and responsibilities
The role will be mainly Queue focused and include predominately problem ticket resolution, performing Change Requests, Security Patching, server OS maintenance and possibly some project based work.
Experience and Background
- Experience supporting Windows Servers in a large Enterprise environment for the past 3 years (preferably within a large Investment Bank).
- Considerable experience in proactive monitoring and troubleshooting of Windows Server OS and application issues.
- Solid knowledge of at least three of the following: - Microsoft Clustering, Active Directory, Citrix, VMWare, DFS, VB, Windows based application installs, NetApp Filers.
- 5+ years' experience supporting a Windows platform.
- Good understanding of the demands of supporting Servers in mission-critical environments such as those in the Banking/Financial sector.
- Understanding of ITIL v3 foundation (Change, Incident, Problem management)
- MCSE 2000 (optional), 2003 (preferred) and 2008 (optional)
- Thorough technical knowledge of Windows platform (Windows, AD, VMware and Hyper - V)
- Must be able to demonstrate deep technical troubleshooting and problem solving skills
- Expertise on Windows heterogeneous platform environments, including MS Clustering, NLB, backup operations, Middleware applications (Terminal Services, Citrix)
- Deep technical skills on Microsoft Core components are mandatory (DNS, DHCP, WINS)
- Good hands on experience on Enterprise class x86 Servers (HP, IBM & DELL) are mandatory
- Good fundamentals and technical hands on experience on Active Directory
- Basic understanding of Storage and back up concepts
- Willingness to develop strong competencies in Windows platform support
- Knowledge of HP ITO and HP Open view monitoring will be a plus
- Excellent understanding of ITSM/ITIL processes and certification will be added advantage.
- Good communication and interpersonal skill are mandatory.
