Description

Information Security and Assurance Technician will be responsible for information assurance including the protection of systems and information in storage, processing, or transit from unauthorised access or modification. Denial of service to unauthorised users; or the provision of service to authorised users. Includes those measures necessary to detect, document and counter threats to the integrity of stored information, such as the application of Firewalls and intrusion detection systems (IDS).

Information security responsibilities include the management of, and provision of expert advice on, the selection, design, justification, implementation and operation of information security controls and management strategies to maintain the confidentiality, integrity, availability, accountability and relevant compliance of information systems.

Cosmic Top Secret required.

Requirements

Experience working in an international/military environment.

Recent experience LAN/WAN and storage area networks architectures.

Recent experience in system administration in both, Windows and UNIX- LAN/WAN and storage area networks.

Experience in providing configuration control of software and data in Client Server environments.

Experience with system administration for storage area networks, virtualized environments, and/or enterprise server machines.

Some experience in conducting and directing investigations into security violations or breaches and misuse of IT/CIS equipment, software, services or compromise of information stored, processed or transmitted in electronic form.

Duties include:

  • Applying NATO and locally provided security policies and standards to ensure safe and efficient operation, administration, maintenance (both in-house and outsourced), and user support of all NAEW&C IT/CIS systems;
  • Applying NATO and locally provided security policies and standards to ensure safe and efficient operation, administration, maintenance (both in-house and outsourced), and user support of all NAEW&C networks, Internet, System Software, data safety, support facilities for software and data maintenance, and other assigned special purpose IT/CIS systems;
  • Applying antivirus measures to all IT/CIS Systems and networks and ensuring continuous updates are deployed to protect all IT/CIS systems;
  • Applying Data Loss Prevention measures to all IT/CIS Systems and networks to prevent accidental and/or intentional loss of classified information;
  • Applying configuration settings to all connected network border devices (Firewalls, Proxy appliances, DNS appliances) as defined by NATO security policies and in accordance with settings provided by the local Command Group/Information Security Section;
  • Executing essential operational support to all NAEW&C organisations, including, when needed, the provision of support for contingency operations on a 24 hours a day, seven days a week basis, for an extended timeframe;
  • Applying skills and techniques required to conduct advanced and in-depth troubleshooting of the security related IT/CIS infrastructure;
  • Executing and/or supporting at the NAEW&C level, trial installations, installation compatibility testing, software conflict identification testing and mitigation, in-house and outsourced technical support and maintenance (repair, replacement, upgrades) for every assigned IT/CIS System;
  • Applying standard operating procedures system software and data configuration management, quality assurance of the technical system (product) and for the maintenance of (in-house and outsourced) support processes and their technical documentation;
  • Executing and/or supporting installation services for IT/CIS security related system software on Servers and client platforms;
  • Applying configuration management policies and procedures (ie user and system administration, licence monitoring, product version identification and control, etc.) on both server and client platforms;
  • Executing routine and contingency support for IT/CIS system installation and maintenance efforts at the Component, at FOBs/FOL, and at other deployed locations;
  • Applying and implementing Communications and Computer Information Security policies and procedures throughout the NAEW&C IT/CIS networks;
  • Ensuring documentation of all E-3A Component IT/CIS systems and networks are kept up to date, with a special view on security architecture;
  • Taking part in the IT/CIS flight or provides support for Operations and Exercise, Audits, Inspections and Technical Support Visits (TSVs) to the FOBs/FOL and other deployed locations.

Education/Training:

Higher Secondary education and completed higher vocational training leading to a formal technical or professional certification with 3 years function related experience, or a Secondary education and completed advanced vocational training leading to a professional qualification or professional accreditation with 5 years post related experience.
