Supply Chain Specialist – Animal Organ Procurement (Europe)
Essential Job Duties
Supply Chain Mapping:
Identify and evaluate slaughterhouses across Europe capable of supplying pig organs (e.g., hearts, lungs, gallbladders, livers, etc.) suitable for medical training model production.
Map the geographic distribution of slaughterhouses relative to manufacturing sites in Poland and Bulgaria to minimize transportation costs and time.
Supplier Assessment:
Conduct due diligence on slaughterhouse partners, including organ quality, availability, waste management practices, and capacity to meet demand.
Assess slaughterhouses’ willingness to collaborate on organ harvesting and preservation processes tailored to training model specifications.
Determine whether the processor prefers to apply their labor or Intuitive labor to perform harvesting operations.
Regulatory and Import/Export Compliance:
Investigate EU and local regulations (e.g., Poland, Bulgaria) governing the harvesting, transport, and use of animal organs for non-food purposes.
Ensure compliance with biosafety, ethical, and veterinary standards for organ procurement and cross-border movement.
Logistics Optimization:
Evaluate transportation options (e.g., refrigerated transport, air freight) for fresh or preserved pig organs from slaughterhouses to manufacturing facilities and from manufacturing sites to final destinations.
Cost Analysis:
Analyze cost structures, including procurement, transportation, storage, and processing of pig organs.
Provide recommendations to balance cost-efficiency with quality and reliability of supply.
Stakeholder Collaboration:
Engage with slaughterhouse leadership, logistics providers, and manufacturing teams to align supply chain processes and educate them on technical and quality requirements associated with material procurement.
Negotiate terms with potential suppliers to secure consistent organ availability.
Risk Assessment:
Identify risks in the supply chain (e.g., seasonal slaughter variations, regulatory changes, or logistical disruptions) and propose mitigation strategies.
Evaluate sustainability and ethical considerations, such as reducing waste and ensuring humane slaughter practices.
Reporting & Recommendations:
Deliver a comprehensive report detailing findings, including a list of vetted suppliers, cost estimates, logistics plans, and a phased implementation strategy.
Present actionable recommendations to establish a long-term supply chain framework.
Required Skills and Experience:
Experience in supply chain analysis, preferably in agriculture, food processing, or biomedical industries.
Knowledge of the European meat processing industry (specific to porcine), slaughterhouse operations, or animal by-product supply chains is highly desirable.
Knowledge of European regulatory and import/export requirements.
Familiarity with EU regulations on animal by-products, biosafety, and cross-border transport.
Strong analytical skills with experience in cost modeling and supplier evaluation.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills to liaise with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in English; fluency in Polish, Bulgarian, or other European languages is preferred.
Willingness to travel across Europe as needed for site visits and supplier meetings.
Required Education and Training:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Veterinary Science, or a related field preferred.
