We are currently looking for several Ceph Developers - C++ (m/f/d) for a customer in the IT industry.

End: 31.12.2026+

Ceph Developer (C++ / Python)

As a Ceph Developer, you will work on the core components of the Ceph storage platform, with a focus on performance optimization, feature development, and long-term maintainability. You will contribute to both upstream Ceph and internal forks, designing and implementing enhancements across modules like RGW, RADOS, RBD, and CephFS. This role combines deep system-level development with the operational realities of running Ceph in large-scale, Kubernetes-driven cloud-native environments.

Team Activities
  1. Design and implement new features in Ceph (RGW, RADOS, RBD, CephFS)
  2. Optimize storage system performance, scalability, and reliability
  3. Troubleshoot distributed storage issues and debug low-level system behavior
  4. Participate in upstream Ceph development and community discussions
  5. Integrate Ceph with Kubernetes via Rook and CSI drivers
  6. Monitor and improve system observability using telemetry and metrics
  7. Plan and execute development tasks using Agile methodologies
  8. Contribute to technical documentation, design reviews, and internal knowledge sharing

Required Skills
  1. Strong proficiency in C++ (5+ years)
  2. Experience with Python
  3. Hands-on experience with Ceph (any of RGW, RADOS, RBD, CephFS)
  4. Solid understanding of Linux internals (I/O, memory management, threading)
  5. Familiarity with Kubernetes, Rook, and Ceph CSI drivers
  6. Experience with Git, GitHub, and CI/CD pipelines
  7. Exposure to large-scale infrastructure or cloud-native environments
  8. Proficiency with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc.)

Optional Skills
  1. Contributions to open-source projects (especially Ceph)
  2. Experience with cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or OpenStack
  3. Familiarity with performance profiling tools and storage benchmarks
  4. Knowledge of S3 and Swift protocols and object storage semantics

Project background
The engineering team develops and runs external SAP Cloud Infrastructure services used by our customers. These cloud services are based on Openstack, a flexible open-source cloud computing platform. It allows us to build and manage a complex cloud infrastructure, controlling virtual machines, storage, and networking resources. This platform lets us scale applications and efficiently manage our cloud environment to serve the individual use cases of our customers. In cases where Openstack does not ship a suitable solution to fulfill our customers’ demands we develop technical solutions to augment our current service offering wherever possible.
