Beschreibung

We are looking for a skilled Storm Risk Modeller to work with a leading global insurer. In this role, you will develop and enhance hazard models for tropical cyclones, extratropical storms, and tornadoes, using geospatial and climate data. Strong skills in Python, R, or MATLAB, as well as experience in Data Science and statistical modelling, are highly valued. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to real-world climate risk assessments and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of experts.

Position: Storm Risk Modeller
Start: ASAP
Duration: 12 months (with possibility of extension)
Workload: 40 hours/week
Location: Munich, 100% remote
Language: English

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop and enhance storm hazard models (Tropical Cyclone, Extratropical Storm, Tornado)
  2. Analyse historical event data, hazard footprints, and exposure information to calibrate and validate models
  3. Provide hazard footprint generation and event updates
  4. Collaborate with data scientists, software developers, and climate experts to ensure model robustness and scalability.
  5. Integration of new scientific research and climate change scenarios into hazard models
  6. Document modelling methodologies, assumptions, and validation processes
  7. Present model results and risk assessments to internal stakeholders
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  1. Proven track record in storm hazard modelling in applied research or risk assessment / climate risk contexts
  2. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB for scientific and geospatial data analysis
  3. Experience with geospatial data handling (e.g., GIS tools, netCDF, shapefiles)
  4. Experience handling reanalysis data and climate model outputs
  5. Knowledge of statistical modelling, extreme value theory, and uncertainty quantification
  6. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in interdisciplinary teams
