Access Control Propagation Automation System for Document Management Data
Big 4 Professional Services Company (Wirtschaftsprüfung, Steuern und Recht, >10.000 Mitarbeiter)
In the document management system of the customer, documents are organised in a hierarchical structure mimicking data organisation of their SAP system (i.e. Customer, Engagement, Project, Tasks). When access control settings are changed in parts of this hierarchy, they need to be propagated to other parts of the hierarchy depending on business rules. The existing solution that was taking care of this process, was not keeping up with the load on this system. I designed and implemented a scalable replacement service that leverages event hooks to process these changes using a queue based mechanism.

Data Encryption Service
Information Management Solution Provider (Internet und Informationstechnologie, >10.000 Mitarbeiter)
The customer needed an API based service to automatically encrypt personally identifiable information in documents. I designed a solution that takes care of this by leveraging an already in-place text-analysis and encryption product while leaving the option to modularly replace these later on. Additionally, support for different file formats was achieved using a plugin system. I lead the development of this solution and plugins for plain text, Office Open XML (xlsx, pptx, docx) and PDF files.

Re-Platforming of a Financial Consultancy Platform
Financial Advisory SaaS Startup (Banken und Finanzdienstleistungen, < 10 Mitarbeiter)
After a successful PoC implementation, the financial and insurance consultancy platform of the customer needed to be re-platformed to become a more sustainable and scalable solution. I designed the new software architecture and led the backend implementation of the new microservice-based, event-driven solution. After delivering the initial version, I also acted in a product management capacity to further develop the product.

Custom Furniture eCommerce System

  • In a team of 3, we developed a Wordpress Plugin extending WooCommerce, to allow for customisations of various aspects of a product. The plugin allows for formula based calculations of the product's price. Additionally, an image layering mechanism was implemented to display the effects of the customisation on the product page.
  • I facilitated meetings regarding design questions as well as requirements analysis with the customer and distributed tasks inside the team.

In a project replacing the document management system of the customer, the interface between their core business application and the DMS part needed to be replaced and modernised. I designed the new interface and led the implementation team.

To support the upgrade of the documents management solution, a new web app needed to be implemented to support the document scanning and ingestion process end-to-end. I lead the solution design and the team that implemented the solution.

GDPR Data Management Solution

In the context of a GDPR solution for a UK bank, an integration was needed to transfer data between a unified data source in the form of a database and a records management system used to maintain retention and audit information. I designed and developed a highly customisable solution based on the design of the unified data source that takes care of the maintenance tasks and guarantees data integrity in the target system.

Document Management System Integration Modernization
Big 4 Professional Services Company (Wirtschaftsprüfung, Steuern und Recht, >10.000 Mitarbeiter)
  • Created a new system library for a big 4 professional services company to interface with a badly maintained software module in their applications. In a team of 3, the library was created based on modern principles such as IoC/DI, domain driven design and repository patterns in an agile manner. Additionally, we started to add test coverage and create continuous integration pipelines.
  • Additionally, I built a WebDAV layer on top of the document management solution based on the requirements of the customer domain
  • Lastly, we created an integration that created and updated the necessary data structures to support the projects created and maintained in SAP. I built the part of the solution that generated the data structures in the document management system, applied custom metadata and set up retention schemes and access controls based on data that has been aggregated from the SAP system beforehand.
