Profile
My involvement on IT goes back to 1978 when I was programming on Fortran V for a  UNIVAC mainframe as a student of Physics in the university of Thessaloniki, and later on Apple 2e and Amstrands.
Since 1991 I work as freelancer computer programmer and also some years part time as trainer on computer use and programming in vocational training seminars. Until 1995-1996 I was programming for local area networks (LANs) and since then exclusively for the internet, being one of the very first web developers in Greece. I have worked and develop project for multinational companies, international consortia, telecom groups, small and medium enterprises, universities, state institutions and local and port authorities.
Working as freelancer web developer and consultant, I was implementing the entire projects myself, so I gained a long experience on all phases of software production: meetings with customers to set project specifications, database design, software design, programming, testing, documenting, deployment, users training, support, maintenance, and evaluation.
I have worked with various types of teams, marketers of multinational companies, politicians and state officials, academic professors and research teams. I have also worked and cooperated with people from all over the world, from resellers of mobile added value services in Australia, to web hosting companies’ staff in USA and Canada, and staff of IT departments of multinational companies in Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, Albania,  Ukraine and Greece.
Beside my general experience on IT, I have a 25 years full time experience on web technologies and ColdFusion since its very first versions. In all these years I was an active member of the world ColdFusion community and helped the ColdFusion development officially reporting bugs.
I have a 29 year experience on database design and SQL working on a variety of databases e.g. MS-SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, Dbase, MS-Access.

Achievements
  1. Very first implementation in Greece of a project for real time transmission to the Internet of Parliamentary (1996) and local (1998) election results, using two different infrastructures, methodologies, and tools. The second one being fully based on Coldfusion and using infrastructure in Volos Greece, Florida and New York USA.
  2. Member of the planning team of the e-Government project ARIADNE (5–10 million euros) funded by the Greek government and EU. ARIADNE project was the implementation of the Citizen Service Centres (KEPs), an advanced multi-channel system for the delivery of public services to citizens and businesses. The project got the Good Practice Label 2007 and was finalist for the European e-Government Awards 2007.
  3. Implementation of the “e-Demography” project, funded by the Greek Ministry of Education and the EU, for the Laboratory of Demographic and Social Analyses of University of Thessaly, Greece. The core of the project was to publish on the internet all the demographic data of Greece since 1940 onwards (including censuses), and present them in dynamic tables, charts and demographic maps. It was the very first time a demographic project of this data volume was implemented in Greece and it was presented as a scientific publication (Kotzamanis V., Stathakis D., Chatzikrystallis A., Agorastakis M. “Demographic Geo-Base of Modern Greece”) in the 10th Greek Conference of Cartography, Ioannina 2008.
  4. Very first development in Greece of messages on Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) technology for mobile telephony, presented in “Info-Com 2002” in Athens. I based the development, testing and presentation on simulators, as they were implemented long before mobile carriers setup the needed infrastructure for their real transmission.
  5. Development of an Extranet for BP Oil Company (2000), for online tracking oil orders from gas stations.
  6. Development of a fully database driven, and multi-user CMS (Content Management System) for websites updates.
  7. Setup and web-development work for one of the very first Greek companies on Internet technologies and marketing (1997).
