Our client is a technology specialized in 3D vision and is looking for a 3D Camera Hardware Engineer with focus on optical systems to help with the design and the development of 3D cameras. The Optics Hardware Engineer will work at our client in Brussels for at least 4 months.

The Optics Hardware Engineer will:

Be involved in our projects focusing on designing, debugging and testing new electronic products, in particular state-of-the-art pioneering Real Time 3D depth sensing cameras combining IR, RGB, Depth and Voice technologies in Embedded systems. You will focus on the optical subsystems (illumination systems, lenses, diffusors) This involves designing/optimizing electronic/optical circuits and architectures, testing out new components to add new vision features to the camera and to lower the BOM cost, as well as redesigning and miniaturizing existing designs. You will also manage the eventual external specialized subcontractors (eg lens design houses, manufacturers)

You will leverage your expertise to boost time-to-market of the camera products with teams in Europe and in Asia.

You will work on:

  • Research, design of prototypes & verify new components for integration into next-gen 3D cameras, RGB/Z/Voice/IR.
  • Improve our optical design subsystems (lens/diffuser/LED/Laser/drive circuit) by analysing and characterizing key origins of optical challenges, proposing and simulating solution, building robust optical test setups, sourcing components and defining optimal testing environment.
  • Increase our stack of optical solutions (lens/diffuser/LED/Laser/drive circuit), by defining the specifications of our next-gen optical components, then driving subcontractors worldwide to develop these new optical components/products according to our specs and needs.
  • For instance, make lens specs and drive/validate design done by external lens designers, and prototype with external companies and validate these lenses
  • For instance, make specs for LED/Laser components and drive implementation with external component manufacturers; validate samples at component and camera/system level
  • Test/Debug/Validate/Characterize your new design implementation ( optical and electrical )
  • Integrating new components into existing designs.
  • Miniaturizing existing designs and ensuring design compliance with physical constraints.
  • Drive and follow-up the regulatory certification of new camera products incorporating your new optical and Laser designs (for Laser/eye safety certification) and industrialize designs for other certifications like (EMC, USB, etc.) that you will conduct with external parties.
  • Execute autonomously and in team hardware projects, setting up project roadmap and making sure deadlines are followed.
  • Produce accurate and concise technical reports and design documentation.
  • Provide feed-back to design team.
  • Maintaining the BOM.
  • Speeding up the time-to-market of the camera products with teams in Europe & Asia.

If you are the Optics hardare Engineer they are looking for:

  • You have at least 3 to 5 years of experience in a similar position. Master degree is preferred.
  • You have practical experience with mixed signal and power electronics techniques
  • You have experience or have a good technical knowledge of optical systems (lenses, diffusors, LEDs, lasers, driving circuits)
  • You have excellent speaking and understanding of English
  • Experience on PCB design for consumer electronics and on camera and IR systems is a plus
  • Programming skills are a plus (python, Matlab)
  • Understanding of VHDL/VERILOG and FPGAs in general is of added value
  • We are looking for someone with an analytical mind and strong commitment to quality.
  • You are problem-solving oriented and like to take initiatives.
  • You are also goal oriented and you have an innovative approach to solving problems
  • This job might include short trips abroad for training and/or cooperation with clients and/or partners mostly in USA and ASIA.
  • Team spirit, social skills and a broad interest in technology are recommended since you will be working in a multidisciplinary team of hardware and software engineers.
