PRODUCT CONTROLLER - STRUCTURED NOTES
Canary Wharf - 6 months
This role falls within the Structured Notes team. The team calculates and controls the month end valuations of the Structured Notes for the three key note issuing entities - London, New York and Nassau Branches across Divisions. The team works closely with Front Office, COO, Operations, APAG, FA and other Product Control teams. The Branch controllers also apply the relevant adjustments calculated elsewhere within the group and post these values to the ledger before reconciling the various components of the structured notes across the Branches' system infrastructure.
To ensure timely, accurate, fully substantiated and compliant financial and management reporting of the Structured Notes business, the following needs to be achieved:
Monthly controls performance:
* Balance Sheet & P&L analytical review
* Performance of multi-GAAP journals/adjustments - US GAAP, IFRS & Swiss
* Verify note valuations
* FOBO reconciliations
* Performing month-end and quarter-end production tasks, which include Account Ownership, Legal Entity and Regulatory Reporting and Accounting Policy implementation
* Control reporting, which includes appropriate escalation, Audit Points, Control Improvement Points, Incident Reporting and SOX documentation and testing
* Comply with all internal policies and procedures in accordance with the Governance framework
* Liaise with the auditors where necessary on specific audit queries, ensuring that audit deliverables are provided timely and accurately
* Partner and liaise with various stakeholders which include Front and Middle Office, other PC teams, Operations, Accounting, Technical and New Business
* Building an awareness of risks associated with the various Divisions
* Building a good network across the variety of departments involved in these transactions to enable problems to be quickly and effectively resolved and to ensure the wider bank team works as efficiently as possible. Excellent communication skills will therefore be required
Process Improvement:
* Actively participate in establishing and implementing complete and accurate accounting under all GAAP's
* Challenging current processes to ensure that resources are focused efficiently and effectively
* Reduction of operational risk and cost through automation and process efficiency projects
* Ad hoc projects
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Product Control experience required
* Strong accounting skills required (US GAAP would be desirable)
* Knowledge of financial products and work experience within the investment banking industry
* Cross-functional knowledge of support and Financial Accounting departments within an investment bank
* Demonstrated ability to implement change, particularly in improvement of controls & automation
* Good communication skills, strong inter-personal and facilitation skills
* Strong problem/issue resolution skills
* Good time management skills
* Proactive team player
