Web and Mobile Designer

CultureConnect is looking for an experienced and ambitious Web & Mobile Designer to help define the future of our museum & education technology products. As a core member of the product team, you’ll be responsible for the creative execution of our mobile web apps – both UX and visual design – for tablets and smartphones. You’ll have the opportunity to work with museums and cultural institutions to bring beautiful, engaging mobile experiences to visitors and students across the country.

• building products that empower museums and cultural institutions to create their own mobile apps
• an early but growing company based in New York and New Orleans
• arts, technology and e-commerce veterans with a passion for making the arts and culture accessible to everyone

You:

• want to create innovative mobile web experiences for museum clients and audiences nation-wide
• have an exceptional UX + visual design background, with a portfolio to back it up
• understand responsive design and can work on a variety of platforms and products (iPad, iPhone, Android, web app, desktop, etc.)
• are hands-on: Omnigraffle, Balsamiq, Sketch, Illustrator, Photoshop, or similar tools are part of your toolkit.
• know mobile trends well, but apply them sparingly - you prize function over fashion
• have a modern aesthetic, strong typography skills, and understand how to design interfaces that enhance content, not distract from it.
• relentlessly advocate for the user – you know delivering a great experience is more than just making things look pretty…
• … but you also have great taste and love making things look pretty
• can work quickly and iteratively while staying organized
• can collaborate, ask questions, make recommendations, push back, and pivot
• work closely with development and engineering teams to translate, implement, and safeguard the design integrity of prototypes and final products.

Bonus Points If:

• you’ve been to more than one museum in the past year

• you’ve already worked for an early stage company
• you have a strong understanding of brand identity and/or sales and marketing collateral
• you live in or near New York or New Orleans (not a requirement)

This position is full time freelance for the first two months, but can evolve into a full-time position for the right candidate. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through Friday August 1st and interviews will begin Monday August 4th.
